For those who don't know our Sandy.

We adopted him in November 03 and he was 6 years old called 'the monster cat'

He lived with an old lady from being a kitten until 5 years old and when she died he was left outside on his own for 3 months. He was picked up by the shelter with a bad head injury.

Sandy had been caged at the shelter for a year, he bit & scratched people and was returned after one adoption for biting his new owner !!!

But I knew he was for us, he looked like RB Caramel and we reasoned that as long as he wasn't aggressive with the other cats or kittens, we have the time to let him settle in.

Fast forward to recent times. Sandy has settled in our home and with the other cats.

But he is still is very fearful and hand shy of Steve & I, he frequently ducks under furniture flat to the ground.

We avoid picking him up but we call to him when he enters a room and stroke him when he eats !!!

I have been away for the first weekend since we got Sandy, leaving all the furkids in Steve's excellent hands

When I returned this evening, Sandy meowed ran over to me outside and rubbed against my legs AND let me stroke him for a couple of minutes !!!!!

I think he missed me :D

He just ran away from me just now but I am so happy that he actually missed me, it makes my heart melt.

I think it will take a few more months/years until he is relaxed on a full time basis but we have the time.

How SWEET! I know how you feel now that Magoo seems to want my company! I know I didn't have to wait as long as you so you must feel doubly better about it!! You know, it has been an awfully long time since we have seen any Sandy pictures!http://petoftheday.com/talk/images/our_smilies/wink.gif

That is great news. I'm so happy for you and Sandy. You are right, give him more time and he will be all over you.

Scout, although nothing like Sandy, is somewhat timid and aloof but with each week she becomes more personable and loving. I think with time she might be the lap kitty I've always wanted.

There is nothing better, than the feeling , when a Cat , that is afraid of you , comesslowly forward , and realizes that you are his Friend! Precious was the hardest , it took over a year , to convince her , that I was All Right!

Jenny, I can remember being so excited the first time Butter actually jumped in my lap that I had to post it here!!! I think he had probably been with me a year or more when that happened. I was afraid to move, wanting to enjoy that moment for as long as I could! :) Sounds like your Sandy brought the same kind of joy that Butter did. :)

Awwww, that's so good!! What a great feeling that must have been. He must know he can trust you, he's just nervous. A bit the way that Jessica is with us.

Clever Sandy. :D
