A few weeks before Mother's day, a friend and I went to Michael's craft store and picked out some flowers and a grapevine wreath. We didn't have anything hanging on our door and mom had mentioned missing something pretty hanging on the door. My friend owned a flower shop for a long time so she volunteered to make the wreath for me and she did a wonderful job, as you can see.

Well, about three days later, this is what I discovered.

A bird had started to build her nest there. She was here last year and had started building one in our other wreath. I scared her away by placing millet in the wreath. I knew birds loved it and I thought she would, too but she never came back. I was amused to see a snake skin and even some of Duke's hairs in the nest.
Here's what I found when I decided to take a pic inside the nest.

I was so happy! We've been very careful not to even breathe on the nest so the mama bird would stay. Every time we open the door, she flies away but comes back a little later. Last year, she got in the house right before I was leaving for work. Like to never got her out. She got inside this time, too but remembered what door she got out of last year. So glad she came back.
Yesterday as I was bringing Duke back in from a potty, imagine my happiness as this is what I saw! You can see the snake skin really well here.

It truly is a Mother's day wreath. This is something really special. Here's how our front entrance looks now.

I hope no one messes with them. I want to get more pics and watch them grow up. I want to keep one myself so badly but I know it's not right. Mom said that they'll probably come here next year to build a nest in the same place. Can't wait to find out.
