My heart's beating a little faster.

I was outside this morning with Nicki, Allen, & Pouncer on his harness. Both Nicki and Allen were eating grass  but Pouncer was surveying the cracks in the foundation of our porch. He scurried (if that's what you can call it in a harness with a 4' leash) from one side of the steps to another and there was an opening large enough for him to stick his little nose into. He was intently nosing into the great hole that is beneath our porch when he suddenly jumped backward in a panicked, freaked sort of way and a chipmunk came flying out!!!!! I screamed, Allen still munched grass, Nicki came running to see what was wrong while the chipmuck sat a few feet away and glared at Pouncer while he glared right back.

I decided our nice playtime outside was over and wrangled all three guys back into the house. Pouncer's now sitting at the back door meowing at top volume to go outside and re-visit his new chipmunk friend!

*LOL*

Ok if that had been either Deirdre, Katiebug or Kaliban this chipmunk story would have had a different ending. Brianna on the other hand probably would have reacted the same way. Mine often have layed in wait and hunted chippies...and Deirdre and Katie have caught a couple of them. None have been killed...just brought to my feet where they do the demented Chippie dance.

The Chippies started hopping about, doing backflips, spinning about and just acting bizarre...until that is the cat steps backwards in confusion, then they run like the devil himself is after them (which I suppose in their minds it is). This technique I have watched several times now and it is very effective.

My cats , with the exception , of formwer Farm cats Michael , and the princess , could not catch a Cold , let alone , a Chipmunk. They have to be careful , of the Strays , though!

Poor Pouncer!!

We once had a chipmunk come all the way up the outside steps to our door. When we opened the door instead of running like a normal chipmunk, it actually acted like it wanted in. Of couse, no way was that going to happen, so Mike closed the door. When he opened it, the chipmunk had made its way down the steps, and for fun Mike whistled and it ran back up to come inside!! I had never seen such a friendly chipmunk. I was a little scared of it, lol.
