My parent's cat Sox, who is 22 lbs and NOT overweight (he's HUGE!!) is at the vet right now. Mom said he had been crying since I think yesterday afternoon, and she had noticed some strange behaviour in the litter box. They took him to the vet first thing this morning and he has blocked kidneys.. probably kidney stones but they don't know yet for sure. They have to drain his bladder (that is why he was crying, he had to pee and couldn't!!) and then they will analyse the stones etc to see what's wrong.
Please say a prayer that he's ok. He's about 9yrs old, and otherwise in good health.

Oh poor Sox! Fingers and paws crossed here that he has some relief soon. Mishi has kidney problems and has been doing terrific on the K/D food. Now I have to figure out how to keep Mitzi out of his food! Please keep us updated on Sox' condition.

Poor Sox. We're praying for you big guy. Hopefully an analysis of the stones will tell the white coats what's going on. There's probably a diet change in his future. That's not going to be fun for anyone!

He has to have a surgery at 11am tomorrow, to remove the stones. Luckily my parents caught it RIGHT away, and there is no infections or any kind of damage. The vet said either he's a very lucky cat or my parents are very observant. My dad told me what he had but I can't remember all the exact names right now, but it's something like FLUDT (Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease). I will let you know how he does with the surgery, sometime tomorrow evening.
Please keep up the prayers! Thanks! :)

Naomi,
I guess observant pet people run in the family, eh? Great to hear that Sox will undergo the removal. I hope all goes well, and he is home with his parents soon. Hugs to you, your kitties, the A/V dept., and your parents and their kitties! (Whew, I am exhausted from all that hugging!)

Sox did really well in the surgery. They found a few stones and a lot of sandy bits that were developing into stones. We won't know why he got the crystals for about a week, as the vet has sent them off for analysis. The vet was sure that he would have to stay there until at least Tuesday afternoon, but he's recovering so nicely he might get to come home Monday morning :)
Thanks, everyone, for the prayers! :)

I talked to mom today, and Sox is still going really well. He's recovering even faster than the vet had hoped for! :) Still no word on the stone analysis but that probably won't come until Friday or maybe Monday :)
