View Full Version : Simba.......

I'm sitting here crying thinking of Simba.
He's 6 years old now. which is young for a dog.... but still.
Lately he's been jumping up on the bed and failing once or twice before he finally makes it. Then he'll sit down while eating.. and lift his paws randomly like they hurt him. I wonder if he's developing arthritus.. or something.
I layed with him today on the livingroom floor after Valerie left... and then on my parents bed.. crying.. He means so much to me.
Honestly, I know most of you probably think he's "just a dog" but he's my best friend. Without him and Nala i'd probably just sit in my room like an absolute mess with tears just waiting for my time.
They make me smile. They're always there for me.
I've always called Simba my "never-ending box of tissues"
If anyone is able to say animals don't have souls.. or they aren't able to love.. they've never had a dog. or never met Simba. He's the dog of a lifetime, and he's come a long way.
He lets people in the house, he lets people touch him..........
He's right beside me right now. I wonder if he knows how much I love him. Or how much he means to me.
I remember when I used to get sick, throwing up, coughing and all.. He'd get so scared. When I threw up he'd start shaking and would sit right by the bathroom door.
I'm not sure if he knew I wasn't well.. or what it was.
I'm going to talk to my dad about it tomorrow and ask him to call the vets about it. I think I want to change vets.. but i'm not sure where. Maybe to Lauren's vet, where she takes Honey and the kitties.. I don't know. I just want what's best for my babies. :(

Now anyone who would think that is definitely in the minority at pet talk! I certainly do not and never would think of any dog as "just a dog."
I'm sorry to hear that Simba's had some troubles lately. Let us know what the vet says!

I know he isn't just a dog.. I know how good of a friend a dog or cat or any animal can be. 6 isn't really that old you know.. I mean it isn't young either but he still has quite a few years ahead of him! I'm sure he's alright and you shouldn't worry very much.. taking him to the vet would be a good idea though, even changing vets can be good. Simba sounds like such a nice companion. I hope for the best for both of you I know just know you'll both be fine.

Simba has alot of good years left in him! Take him to the vet and see but maybe it's not anything too serious, something that can be easily fixed up.

I think you know better than that, Kay!!! Six isn't all that old for a dog. I have two who are 5 and one that is almost 9 and I still call them my "puppies". I think it would make you feel better to have him thoroughly checked over, so maybe you can work that out.
Try not to worry too much and give both of them lots of love and hugs from me, please. :)

I really think they know. I have always thought that our pets know and experience feelings much more than we can imagine. I am always telling mine how much I love them anyway and I know you do too! I am sure Simba has many, many good years ahead of him. Try not to focus on the negative thoughts. They will spoil your happiness in the "now." Discuss all of this with your parents and see if they think he would benefit from a change of vets. (((Hugs))) to you KayAnn.

We know how much Simba means to you. We know that 6 is only 6 - not even old for a doggie of his breed/size! :) Do speak to a vet about his difficulty getting up onto things - he could need a change of diet if it's a weight thing, or something. And if it's the beginnings of arthritis, there's still stuff you can do to keep him comfy, cozy and comforting for a long time to come.
I know he knows how much he means to you. And I know he feels the same toward you. Anyone who disagrees has never known love.

Ok, I'm just going to say what everyone else has;)
We definately know he's not "just a dog"! I like what Kim said best...he's the Wonder Dog!
I hope that the vet can tell you if he's having any problem at all. Please let us know.
And believe me, I know just how you are feeling when you talk about him being 6. I still can't believe that Angus is going on 13:eek: So I'm sure that Simba has many wonderful and happy years ahead of him:D

You know a couple of years ago, Oreo couldn't get up on the furniture anymore, couldn't jump into the car or make it around the block walking. Then we got the younger dogs and they seemed to lift her spirits and get her "youth" back.
It probably wouldn't hurt to take him to the vet and found out if something is wrong but it may be something that happens for awhile and then goes away. Simba certainly isn't old and he certainly has a lot more good years ahead of him.
Or you could tell your parents that a new pup would help make Simba find his youth again:D
And I am sure that dogs know we love them. This is the second time in six months that I have left mine for at least a week and they all just are excited and happy to see me and act like they knew I would be back and happy to see them too! They are all clamoring for the closest spot to me.
Of course Simba is not just a dog.
My dogs are my best friends too.
If Simba is developing arthritis, how about
getting a wide step for him to get off and on the
bed. (RV stores sell them)
Sheba has arthritis for years, and I would give
her a buffered asperin now and than.
At almost age 11, I am now just trying perscriptions meds for her.
Simba has a lot of years in him, please do not
worry.

Do not suffer in advance. Everything has a solution.
Enjoy the years ahead of you and Simba together. Your love for each other will ease any obstacle.

Simba will be okay. Just don't go overboard like I did. My dog Scooby had a stroke and was no longer able to go out the doggy door or upstairs. So what do I do??? I buy a bigger house with a big back yard for him and Shaggy! (Dirtnap came later) How spoiled!
Well, short of lowering your furniture or purchasing a new home. Maybe learn to compensate for Simba's limitations. I pick Scooby up if he can't get on the bed after a few tries. I make him try first! Check Simba's paws. Maybe they are cracked or have a splinter? Feed Simba some supplements. Maybe it is time to change dog foods to senior dog formula. How is Simba's weight? Scooby is a little "Fat Boy" and that causes some of his problems.
God Bless Simba and you!!! Take care of you both!!!:)

Kay, those videos I seen of him playing with Nala, sure didn't look like that of an old dog, he is so smart and acted like a puppy!
I agree with Karen, I know Simba knows how much you love him. If he thought you didn't love him, he would not be so willing to return the love you give him. You have put yourself into that dog, and Simba knows it. No he is not just a dog, not by a long shot. He is very special. .
Simba knows when you are sick, and when you are depressed. I don't care what anybody says, I think they try and comfort you when you are sick or just feeling down in the dump. I have seen this too many times, Kay.
Do what Karen suggested, remember Simba is feeling what you feel too. That way, he won't be worried about you, and you won't be worried about him. I know you will do whatever is right for Simba.
