View Full Version : The crackers are holding us down! *upchuck*

I was flipping through the channels and stopped on a public access channel. The first thing out of this man's mouth was that "the crackers are the enemy" and then "you need to watch out for the white people. You need to know when a smile is sincere!" Next it was "We want equality for all people!" *scratches head* This doesn't seem congruent to me!

Then he starts talking about how there are negroes like Condoleeza Rice and Colin Powell who got ahead by ignoring the black people and rubbing elbows with the enemy!

I've never been exposed to attitudes like this, and I am appalled.

He just stated that black and white children shouldn't hang out together, and that if young black people hang out with whites, then obviously they don't know what their parents and grandparents know about the whites!

I think I'm going to hurl.

Am I right in feeling angry?

Attitudes of intolerance not so far removed from homophobia and sexism...

Write to the station with your complaint. It's PUBLIC acces - and you're the public. Hey, mayybe you'll even get a chance to "rebut." Was this an elected official, or just a random bigot?

I would agree with that, yes.

If that was trying to be a jab (I'm not sure, correct me if I'm wrong) then it was a poorly executed one!

I couldn't tell who this person was--maybe the head of a church? I didn't see the beginning of it.

I could have all of the shows refuting what he said that I wanted, but I'd have no right to ask for the show to be removed *sighs* Plus, he had hundreds of people cheering him on, and where am I going to get them from?

Not a jab at all. But, now that you meantion it, hate- by any other name.....

I don't hate anyone... and I don't know how you got that impression? If thinking that homosexuality is wrong is interpreted as hate (incorrectly) then maybe I could see where you get this.

You think my opinions are not right... yes? Does that mean you hate me??

I am embarrassed to say that when I first read the title of this thread I read it a little too quickly and thought that someone's pet had thrown up some crackers. :o I must learn to slow down. Anyway, glad that no PTer has a sick dog/cat/pet. :o

I would have been disgusted as well. Unfortunately, reverse racism(that's what I call it) is accepted and encouraged. If you had heard that man saying the opposite, like the negros being the enemy and all, the ACLU would be all over you. That really ticks me off!

Me too! LOL

Devon, I unfortunately see this attitude every day. Hubby works for an inner city school and the kids have told him TO HIS FACE that they can't get into trouble because if they did, their parents would scream "racism" and sue the school. My neighrbor tried that last year but didn't even dare try sue my husband because he knows we are far from being rascist!

It makes me mad and sad at the same time. A friend of mine works part time at Target and she's white as white can be, and is completely fluent in Spanish (though doesn't advertise the fact.) She will be working at Target alongside Latino women and listen to their conversations throughout the day. They talk about how much they hate whites, how they can work the system to get everything for free. Its appaling.

To me, its not the color of your skin. I'm starting to become intolerant though... not of skin color, but of attitudes of ethnic people hating ME for being white... blaming ME for their troubles. I've said it once, I'll say it again, blame YOURSELF... study & work hard and you'll have the world by its strings. Sit down and hold your hand out and you'll go nowhere.

One of the simplest pleasures in my life is to
'call' people on their comments.

My fix??? When I hear someone slamming or being dumb with their comments in Spanish, I lean in and conspiratorially whispaAer, "Es verda (it's the truth), I feel the same way...."

I never knew how entertaining it was to see people's jaws drop.;)

Por que no?

Pops was from Mexico and he was a "white Mexican", lighter in skin color than the norm..
All my brothers and sisters....are pale but we understand enough 'espanol' to decode a conversation
(and to curse, order off the menu and scold each other).

About once a week I run into people who pull the same crap......They complain about the situation HERE in the US......I have been known to put a puzzled look on my face say," Manana todo vay estad mejor"- Tomorrow everything will be better....

There's no point in being rude to them, it's just gently letting them know that it's impolite to
talk trash.....;)
