We adopted a new tortois kitten last November from the Humane
society. She is nice addition to the 2 cats we already have although she is a terror being a kitten and all. The only thing we don't understand is she doesn't really meow. She just likes walks around and kind of whines all the time. She is 6 months old now. Any body have any suggestions as to why she does this?

Does she seem anxious about anything when she does this? Does she play well with the other two? Does she seem to see well when you drag a little toy for her to chase? Some people whistle or hum and don't even realize they are doing it. Maybe she has a little Siamese in her, they are very vocal. Sorry I can't be of better help but if she's a sweet, happy little thing I wouldn't be too worried. Who can really figure out what goes through kittens and cats brains anyway ;) Welcome to PetTalk and feel free to ask anything at anytime. We may not know the answers but we will always listen

She does seem anxious alittle. She gets along well with the other two if they let her. She wants to play alllllll the time and the other 2 are 5 and 6 years old so they tire of her easliy. Maybe you are right, althouh her color is that of that of a tortoise she has blue eyes. She is a love. Just wondered if this could be abnormal:) Thanks for you input

Your kitty is probably part Siamese.. but my Tiger Short Haired Tabby used to whine all the time.. and it happened to be that he had a sore paw, so we took it to the vet and they said it had a weird thing on his paw.. Poor kitty.

Any chance her anxiousness is related to looking for a partner?
Spayed already?

I wouldn't worry too much! I have a Tortie, Molly Rose, who will be 10 years old on Sunday. She NEVER meows!! It could be one of the characteristics of the Tortie breed.
As long as she's eating, drinking and using the litterbox, stop worrying!!!

My daughter has a friend that has a cat that whines. I had never heard one do that before and thought it was the cutiest thing! Maybe that is just how the kitty "talks". The friend didn't realize how unusual it was for a cat to do that.
