A man was arrested Monday or Tuesday for something unrelated to the following. He had a "kennel" up in the mountains near Gorman, CA. I'm not clear as to who knew and failed to do anything about it, police & animal control. However, rescuers were not notified til late Wednesday night and thus unable to do anything til Thursday.
Tuesday & Wednesday were record breaking hot days in LA... 100+ degree heat, I saw my own car's temp gauge report 110+ degrees. Since no one did anything about the dogs... they were abandoned and left with no food or water for those days and 50+ of them died by the time someone did do something.
Rescuers (including myself) headed up there Thursday but Animal Control was already there starting to load up dogs to go to Baldwin Park shelter in Pasadena (a high kill shelter). Because of the short notice, rescuers were only able to save a few dogs that day. The dogs that did end up at the shelter are being held for 14 days (12 days left on that clock as of this writing) at which time they become subject to the general "get adopted or die" policy.
What's needed: FOSTER HOMES!!!
I've put together a website to help get people together since rescue groups are the only ones allowed to take the dogs out right now and they're trying to find as many foster homes as possible.
If you can help or know of someone who can help please go to http://www.gormanrescue.com and post in the forums there that you are willing to foster. Pictures are available However, not all dogs may be available. Frankly, I'm not sure we know where every dog is now and we were told by Animal Control that the aggressive dogs were being put down Thursday night.
Even though this mainly is mainly going to be for people in or near LA, I personally am willing and able to transport dogs to fosters/forever homes that are available for these dogs elsewhere in CA or even Las Vegas, NV
