My foster Topaz developed URI. I'm putting amoxycillin in her food. The kittens are OK except for the eyes. They're gummy; I'm cleaning them and putting terramycin in. All you kitten ol' pros from Dover out there: is it safe to give kittens a tiny (0.1 cc) dose of amoxycillin? They are now 17 days old.

Thanks!

I don't think terramycin is good to use in their eyes, but a tiny amount of amoxi shouldn't hurt. My vet told me that terramycin has tetracycline in it, and any animal under six months shouldn't have it. It can permanently discolor their teeth. I use erythromycin for the tiny ones. It is used in hospitals for newborn human babies. I don't think using the terramycin for a short time though will do any harm. I've had to use it in a pinch! If you think about it....by the time they're six months old, they'll get adult teeth in. My wee ones are battling ookey-eyes too. *grimace*

Thanks! The mom is over her cold, and the kittens had a few sniffles, nothing more. I remembered a trick about exposing them to humidity to unclog them. I don't understand how putting a tiny amount of terramycin in their eyes is going to discolor their teeth, though. Thanks for the tip about erythromycin; maybe we can get some of that to pass out to the kitten fosters.

I've got a 8 week old getting Teramycin.

It helped a lot.
