my dog ate some fudge

I have a shitzu who will eat anything. She found the box that had a chunck of fudge and ate the whole thing. I heard that chocolate can kill them. What should I do? I would hate to lose her since she is very special to me. Please help.

How much fudge was there, and how heavily chocolate was it? Most fudge is mostly sugar, so it's not as dangerous as if she's eaten a bar of dark chocolate. Still as a Shih Tzu, she's a small dog ... how is she acting?

A small amount of chocolate can make a dog sick though is usually not fatal. But the darker the chocoalte, the more toxic. Baking chocolate is the most toxic. Fudge has almost as much butter and sugar in it as chocolate so hopefully he'll have nothing more than an upset tummy. I'd call your vet right away, just to let them know. He might prescribe an emetic (something to make him upchuck) It sounds like the piece was small so he'll probably be just fine but being a little guy, you don't want to take chances.
