Wow - 51 Thursdays - that means that next week is our one year anniversary.
For this week, lets celebrate aliens, conspiracies, and that old stand-by, paranoia and the cold war.
May I recommend for a DOTD - a Cosmonaut -
2 oz.Vodka, 1 oz. Triple sec, 1 Fresh lemon wedge and 1 fresh lime wedge
Shake with ice and serve in chilled martini glass. Out of this world!

I Love This Bar
(Toby Keith/Scott Emerich)
We got winners,
We got losers,
Chain smokers and boozers,
We got yuppies,
We got bikers,
We got thirsty hitchhikers.
And the girls next door dress up like movie stars.
Mmmm, I love this bar.
We got cowboys,
We got truckers,
Broken-hearted fools and suckers,
We got hustlers,
We got fighters,
Early birds and all-nighters,
And the veterans talk about their battle scars.
Mmmm, I love this bar.
Chorus
I love this bar.
It's my kind of place.
Just walkin' through the front door puts a big smile on my face.
It ain't too far.
Come as you are.
Mmmm, I love this bar.
We got short skirts,
We got high techs,
Blue collar boys and rednecks.
We got lovers, Lotsa lookers,
I've even seen dancin' girls and hookers.
And we like to drink our beer from a Mason jar.
Mmmm, I love this bar...Yes, I do.
I like my truck.
I like my girl friend.
I like to take her out to dinner.
I like a movie now and then.
But, I love this bar.
It's my kind of place.
Just twirlin' around on the dance floor puts a big smile on my face.
No cover charge.
Come as you are.
Mmmm, I love this bar.
Mmmm, I love this old bar.

Woo hoo! It always messes with me that the Thursday thread is started on my Wednesay :p And, today is also my Friday in work land so it's a great time to celebrate! I've got some good wine from a vineyard in Maryland. Anyone care to try it? The one opened right now is Raspberry. It's so yummy. Plenty for everyone! Also have some Blueberry being chilled. Happy Thursday everyone!

What do you mean by 'who gets their jobs back'? Did you have to re-apply for your jobs?
I'll buy you a double!
slick
04-21-2004, 10:13 PM
Well, I'm back home after another busy day. I could sure use a dry vodka martini, shaken not stirred, with a fist full of garlic stuffed olives.
Captain: please explain because I've probably missed something. Is everything OK?? You get a double from me too.
captain
04-21-2004, 10:47 PM
Gee whiz - with all these doubles .............. r u tryin to get me pished??
JOB FRONT
About 2 months ago, my company brought in a head honcho to do the big old "snippo" of jobs and staff. Effectively, the top 2 levels of management had to reapply for their jobs, or for another job if they wished.
This decision process didn't really effect me, until it gets down to the announcements.
My boss had a meeting today, and was told that "WE" now report to a Manager "yet to be appointed". So for now, my job is OK.
That said, this of course will only be concrete when they finally have the new "appointee", and whether he/ she decides that my job is a "value added service". This will effect my boss too .......
Everyone tells us not to worry about it, as we CLEARLY add value (I am an IT Trainer and Web Designer and document writer and process writer, and alcohol drinker ...............). I am not really worried if they decide I have no value - I know several other people who think I do .......... so moving on would be OK (if that ever happened)
OK, back to the bar ................. :D
Well, Michelle, there was never any question in my mind - you definitley have value.....any place that you find yourself.
But I do have concern for both you and Nicole. This reorganization stuff and relocating makes you nuts. After all, all you want to do is make a living, pay your rent/mortgage and try to have a fairly decent life.
Let me buy you both a drink! Hey Richard, drinks are on me - the whole crew. I am in a generous mood right now.
I have had a nightmare of a couple of days grappling with a client's health insurance plan. Somebody in billing goofed - billed us incorrectly - didn't credit our account properly and the next thing you know - NO HEALTH INSURANCE FOR ALL OF THE EMPLOYEES!
You know, when I am really p_____, you just don't want to mess with me. It made me so angry, especially because someone went out to renew some prescriptions and got hit with the BIG BILL. I just hate it when I have to spend a lot of time fixing other people's mistakes. As of today, it was resolved. But the time and effort it took to get it done left me very weary and frustrated.
There are just too many people out there who just don't give a darn about the quality of their work. Hey - it's 5:00 PM = must be time for me to go home - the hell with the customers.
But back to the bar - look I think I might have to spend the night here - because driving after a few of these drinks might not be a good idea.
Apple martini's for me...........line them up.
Hey 51 weeks and we haven't been busted yet. Now I think that calls for a real celebration on #52.
Hey, where is Tray and Amoore and Laurie and.............look I am buying - you had better get in line and take advantage!

Hey everybody! I got smart today and brought my laptop along to work so I can at least be somewhat productive while it takes forever for all my programs to re-load on my work computer. So far everything is going smoothly but I'm saving the worst for last - maybe I'll tackle that one tomorrow morning.....but then again, if I hang out here all night I won't be in any shape to tackle anything in the morning. ;)
I'm attaching a pic of "our" area 51. It's at the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY. I was responsible for raising the money for the brick. I refer to "area 51" because the museum has numbers in various spots throughout the sidewalk so you can tell someone "Look for my brick by the big ZR-1 brick in area 51." as an example.
And finally, seeing as how this is such a work related thread, I'll share the following with you. Kinda long, but there are some really good ones in there. ;) #6 reminds me of Slick, #8 makes me think of Gini, and I personally really like #38.
THINGS YOU'D LOVE TO SAY OUT LOUD AT WORK:
1. I can see your point, but I still think you're full of shit.
2. I don't know what your problem is but I'll bet it's hard to pronounce.
3. How about never? Is never good for you?
4. I see you've set aside this special time to humiliate yourself in public.
5. I'm really easy to get along with once you people learn to see it my way.
6. I'll try being nicer if you'll try being smarter.
7. I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message
8. I don't work here, I'm a consultant.
9. It sounds like English, but I can't understand a word you're
saying.
10. Ahhh...I see the screw-up fairy has visited us again.
11. I like you! You remind me of myself when I was young and stupid.
12. You are validating my inherent mistrust of strangers.
13. I have plenty of talent and vision; I just don't give a damn.
14. I'm already visualizing the duct tape over your mouth.
15. I will always cherish the initial misconceptions I had about you.
16. Thank you. We're all refreshed and challenged by your unique point of view.
17. The fact that no one understands you doesn't mean you're an artist.
18. Any connection between your reality and mine is purely
coincidental.
19. What am I? Flypaper for freaks!?
20. I'm not being rude. You're just insignificant.
21. It's a thankless job, but I've got a lot of Karma to burn off.
22. Yes, I am an agent of Satan, but my duties are largely ceremonial.
23. And your crybaby whiny-assed opinion would be...?
24. Do I look like a people person?
25. This isn't an office, it's Hell with fluorescent lighting.
26. I started out with nothing and still have most of it left.
27. Sarcasm is just one more service we offer.
28. If I throw a stick, will you leave?
29. Errors have been made. Others will be blamed.
30. Whatever kind of look you were going for, you missed.
31. I'm trying to imagine you with a personality.
32. A cubicle is just a padded cell without a door.
33. Can I trade this job for what's behind door #1?
34. Too many freaks, not enough circuses.
35. Nice perfume. Must you marinate in it?
36. Chaos, panic, and disorder --- my work here is done.
37. How do I set a laser printer to stun?
38. I thought I wanted a career---turns out I just wanted a salary.
39. Oh I get it--- it's like humor---but different.
:D
Ok, back to installing programs!

Case in point, I received a panic phone call the other day from "upstairs". They were all upset because they said there was a floppy disk stuck in the drive and they needed to copy a PP presentation to a disk and they were on a deadline and all H was breaking loose.
I dropped what I was doing and ran to their aid. Turns out there was no stuck disk. They were just trying to insert a new one upside down.  I mean, come on, these people have been working with computer for years and they haven't learned the simple task of inserting disk???? Waitress served detergent instead of schnapps
An Austrian waitress has been fined £500 for mistakenly serving guests industrial strength cleaning detergent instead of schnapps.
The court in Klagenfurt in southern Austria heard how five diners ended up in hospital after drinking what they thought was schnapps.
The overworked waitress mistook the house detergent for the house schnapps when she served the guests.
They were taken to a local hospital after another guest, who had refused to drink the schnapps because it smelt so strange, called an ambulance.
The waitress told the court that she had been "stressed" and had grabbed the wrong bottle from the cellar.
She was found guilty of causing bodily harm.

Just wanted to tell you all HI. It's raining here and I don't want to track mud on the clean floor.
Gini, I'll try the parifin on the zipper. He would barf on my new purse! I think I've gotten it all cleaned up except for the pink stain on one corner. It's a tan cloth and leather purse. He had shrimp canned food, which the manufactures had given a nice pink color. Now my tan purse has a pink corner. Most of it came out with water and Simple Green cleaner. I'm glad it was zipped shut so my check book escaped soaking though one of the side pockets will never be the same.

does that mean we would have to behave :( phooey ;) I can just see trying to get Mario to behave... if we say anything along those lines you know it would just encourage him, goodness knows what tricks he's liable to pull
Maybe we just tell Mario that the party is in his honor - and then he might behave!
