I got another rat about two weeks ago...I have't had a rat in over two years! My last ratty, Galahad (I rescued him from a cruddy pet store, they were going to feed him to a snake!) passed on from old age and it took me a while to get over the loss enough to get another. That and I had to find the right one. I know it isn't too wise to get rats from pet stores but I was in a store getting food for my gecko and my fish and I saw this little black ball of fur race to the front of the cage as I walked past. She watched me go to the reptile section and watched me pass to go to the cashier. I had to take a second look. My husband *Mr Rat lol* said, "We should take her home!" I was sold! She is all black up top with little white "socks" on her legs. She has a little white patch on her chest and a white belly. Her tail is black with a pink tip. She is soft and really really really clean even for a rat. She has already picked out a potty corner in her cage. She has a four story cage and when she is on the bottom I can call her name and she'll come racing to the top to be let out! She hops on my hand when I put my hand in her cage. She is really tame. I take her out with me for at least two hours a day to hang out (mostly she rides in my shirt pocket lol). I love my ratty! Her name is Cleopatra (AKA Cleo Rattus as the hubby started calling her lol). Ok Im done rambing about my ratty. Pix soon!!

She sounds ADORABLE! I can't wait for pictures.

I would love to have a rat, especially a black and white one since there was one who stole my heart several years ago who was black and white. I am really hesitant though because of their short life span. I'm sure the love they give is well worth it though!!

Congratulations on your new ratty! I can't wait to see pictures. I have been looking at rats too, but haven't seen the right one yet.

I love her name Cleopatra or Cleo Rattus. They are both cute names. I'm glad you got her, sounds like you saved her life.

Congrats on the new addtion, however rats are very social and you should really get her a same sex friend. They can get bored pretty quickly even if you are home all day. They really do need ratty company, and with a cage the size as hers another rat isn't going to be too much. Please do her a favor and find her another friend. If possible locate a responsible breeder in your area, or look into rescuing one from the shelter. The pet shop should be your last resort.

Sounds like a cutie, when are you getting her a ratty companion? :)
