View Full Version : How do I explain this to my son....

It seems so simple, yet it isn't.

We are Christians. My son has always went to Christian schools. Well, this year, for the first year, he's in a public school. Jaden loves Jesus. But he's finding out, that they aren't allowed to pray or talk about Him. He's especially upset right now because he had the perfect catepillar video to share at school, and he couldn't show it because it was a Christian video.

This all seems simple and minor, but to a 6 year old child, it is really upsetting. He's very very upset that "Jesus isn't allowed in the school...we are supposed to talk about Jesus."

I'm trying to explain this to him and make him feel better. Any suggestions?

I guess you can make it a good conversation/lesson on free will and how others are different. Jesus says to love others and its very easy they are like ourselves. His challenge will be loving people that are different.

This might be a good lesson in broadening his horizon and opening his mind to the people he should love and pray for.

Good luck. :)

I agree with Noah's Mummy ... young Christian children do need to learn, at some stage, that there are "different" beliefs and religions throughout the US - and indeed the world. Like Noah's mummy said, it is a good lesson to teach children to love those who are different.

To turn this negative into a positive, teach your son that the best way he can share his love for Jesus with others is to set a good example to all his schoolmates!

I agree with all of the above. You might also take this opportunity to study other religions and other beliefs and talk about how they are similar, but also different which is why we don't talk about Jesus in school since there are those who don't share the same beliefs.

Thank you everyone. Gosh, I've been so negative lately...shame on me. You are right, I can make this a positive experience.

A student is allowed to talk about what they believe! I can understand the video, of course, but he's allowed by law to talk about Jesus all he wants! (I give props to the little witness!)
