I was waken up a hour ago by the sound of Nala's flopping ears. Her ear is almost as red as a stop sign.
There a little part where it's bleeding. She won't stop shaking her head and itching at it.
She's not holding it like she normally does.
I've cleaned it out twice already. Once with Tissues, a second time with ear flush and tissues.
I woke my dad up and told him. He said there's nothing we can do right now, which is true. Watching her itch is making me itchy :(
I have school tomorrow but I don't even want to go if she's still shaking and itching. Besides that, i've lost an hour of sleep so far, and I really don't think I can sleep knowing she's with discomfort, let alone leave her.
I'm not sure what it could be. Ear infection? I'm not sure, because I clean their ears weekly if not more than once a week.
I'm sure it probably can't be anything serious, but it's serious to me especially when she's uncomfortable. :(
It wasn't like this when I went to bed, and she didn't do anything like this all day.
I tried taking a few pictures with my webcam to show you.
It's her left ear, to the right side in the picture.

I tried taking a picture of her ear, but it's kinda of hard to see how red it is.
I'm going to continue to watch it/clean it out.... :(

She's snoring on my bed now, occasionally shaking. Her ear is still really red, and waxy looking. I guess i'm sleeping on the tile floor. I'd rather not move her if she's comfortable where she is.
I only have an hour and a half left to sleep. I'll update when I do wake back up. :(

It does sound like an ear infection. Does her ear smell at all? That would be a big clue if it is.
Hope Nala feels better soon!

Oh Poor Nala,
Can someone take her to the vet while you are at school???
Sounds like she needs some meds to take care of this....
Give her a hug from us!!!

Jada had an ear infection recently, and it was awful to see her itching all the time too, and shaking her head. I tried cleaning her ears a lot, but I ended up having to get drops from the vet for her--a few days of those drops and she's as good as new!!!!
Our vet just gave us the drops when we called--maybe yours would do the same, and you wouldn't have to bring Nala in.
Jada's ear smelled really bad too when it was infected, does Nala's ear smell?
I hope she's feeling better now.
I hate ear infections! There's almost never a time when Reece's ears aren't terrible :(
Even if you do clean them, they can still get infected. They can even get infected if you clean too much and leave a lot of moisture in them. The drops should zap the infection out. Petsmart has a powder that will keep the ear dry that you can put in their ears after you clean them. It works well to prevent further infections.
Hope Nala feels better ASAP!

oh poor nala :(
Greta has had an ear infection for almost a month now...our vet says they're really tough to clear up. Before we got her to the vet she had her ear red and raw from scratching it so much .
We clean her ears twice a day now with a solution that dries quickly, but the vet has also said to let her shake, and then dry as much as possible with a cotton ball. We're also giving her liquid antibiotics once a day. If she starts to scratch her ear, I try to scratch it for her, so she won't tear it up.
If you can, get her to the vet so you can get the antibiotics. It really helps with the itching and pain.

I hope Nala will be better soon, KayAnn. Our Murphy Lab gets frequent ear infections, but some ear wash we got from the vet has helped a lot.

Thanks for the advice/well wishes everyone.
I didn't go to school today because I stayed up all night with her. I also tried sleeping on the floor but I think being worried go to me.
It's cleared up alot and the only time it bothered her was when I cleaned it today. I allowed her to shake, and well she got ear gunk on one of my favorite shirts. The one that says "Poop Sniffer" :p I got it out though.
Earlier I found her UNDER my bed. I shoud have taken pictures. She's still a goofy girl. My bed isn't that big nor is it high of the ground. I had to help her out.
The ear solution is the stuff we got from our vet when Simba had bad ear problems a while back (which luckily we haven't see any lately :) )
My uncle told me to put baking soda in it, but I wasn't too sure about that, so I didn't.
I'm going to have my dad call the vet tomorrow to see what he says. I do remember him givin us pills from when Simba had his ear problems, but those didn't help much. He also gave us some sort of cream awhile back that only seemed to make Simba more uncomfortable.
She's snoring right now, which I think I should join her so I can go to school tomorrow! :p

Just wanted to let you all know, that Nala's ear looks normal now. While I was petting her and Simba before I layed down to sleep, I checked it.
:D :D :D :D
It's normal colored, no gunk, doesn't smell (it didn't before either), and it hasn't bothered her at all.
Before when I looked at it, she'd shake her head and scratch at it after I was done. This time she didn't.
If it looks bad tomorrow, we're going to call the vet for an appointment. :)
Again, thanks everyone for the well wishes and advice! :)

I just read your post right now, KayAnn. I'm sorry that little Nala had ear problems but glad to know she's feeling better and hope her recovery continues.
What do you use to clean her ears? I use OtiCalm for Carina and it has worked very well.
Hugs to Nala and SimSim.
I'm so glad Nala's feeling better!:D

Nala says thanks to everyone! :D
Her ears still look normal. :)
Albea-
I use ChlorhexiDerm Flush to clean them. It says it's for Dogs, Cats, and Horses. Our Vet gave it to use when Simba had his ear porblems, and it says to use it once a day if necessary.
Normally I just clean their ears out with some tissue.
