Evening Evveryone,
I stopped by the Vet's today as I had the day off from work. I told him about Shadow. He reccommended FELIWAY. So I came home and sprayed the places she has been hiding in. Well so far she has gone back to hiding behind my husband's desk, and I just looked and is now back hiding in the bathroom sink.:confused:
How long before we see her start to relax... or is that too much to ask for a stressed out over wrought Calico?????

How often do I use this Feliway?

There are two products, Feliway, and Comfortzone with Feliway. Rather than try to explain to you, I'll give you a link to check out. http://www.feliway.com/html/using-feliway-and-comfortzone.php3 Fiqure out what product you have, and proceed from there. I have used it to stop the brats from clawing furnitue, and to "train" them to use a scratching post and not funiture.

I have the FELIWAY.
I have sprayed all the rooms where Shadow goes. I even sprayed the place behind myhusband's desk where she hangs out. KNow what.. she still hangs out behind his desk and when I Left for work this morning.... she was back in the bathroom sink.

I read everything in the phamplet and also went on th einternet last night.
Have you ever used it and how long before you have seen a difference?

I used it several years ago when my old pal Pumpkin, a tabby cat, was dying of kidney disease. He was 13 years old, and wanted to use the whole house for a litterbox. It didn't work on him, but it has on the 2 cats I now have. It worked quickly for the 2 cats, but maybe the disease my old cat had caused him to ignore it. Maybe that is your case too. I hope everything works out OK with Shadow. Good luck.......:)

I am hoping it will work. I just started using it yesterday. My husband came home today and said that Shadow was lying stretched out in ther kitchen.. but now is back behind his desk. So I have resprayed everything again tonight. I'll keep using it and buying it until I see her relaxing. Sh eis so precious and such a sweetheart.....CLayton is so laid back... my husband said that he is so happy to be in a home where he is loved and free to roam and be safe.
I hope and pray that Shadow will settle down and tolerate Clayton.

I just purchased the Feliway Comfort Zone which you plug in an outlet.

I have a cat (Debra) that likes to urinate outside the box and scratch woodwork, so I'm hoping it will create a more relaxed environment for her . . . my other female (Lizette) likes to chase/terrorize her, which only makes matters worse. Debra is a very sensitive cat with many "issues", and why she puts up with Lizette's bullying I guess I'll never understand. Debra is solid, sinewy muscle, and Lizette is much smaller than she . . . Debra can even hold her ground against my massive stud muffin, Schuyler!! I guess it is a female dispute; maybe Lizzy is trying to challenge Debra to become Alpha-girl since Lilly has gone to RB.

I hope the Feliway plug-in has a positive effect as it certainly was expensive enough ($42.00 at PetSmart) and is good for six weeks until you are supposed to replace the container. I don't expect immediate results, but do hope I didn't throw away my money. I had just the spray bottle Feliway and used to spray the areas where Debra was scratching/spraying as per the directions, but it did not deter her.:(

I have all sorts of aggression issue with my four females. I have used the Feliway before and wasnt' sure the first time if it was really working. However, recently Deirdre was becoming more upset and irritated with the other cats all the time. She just seemed so tense. Always walking around growling and hissing at the others. So I bought another refill for the plug in. Within 12 hours she was calmer and over the weekend she was feeling much better I think.

I don't think the FELIWAY is working. I keep spraying it and Shadow still stays behind my husband's desk. Clayton sits outside the door ready to pounce on her... so she stays behind the desk. She is no more relaxed then when I first started!:confused:
Yesterday, she did come out for a little while but then ran back upstairs to the safety of her "Daddy's" desk. I spray the area in my husband's study where she hides... and the normal places she wanders. I am also using Rescue remedy in her water. This is one Calico with serious emotional issues. I feel so awful. I feellike I Have done this to her becasue I brought Clayton home. GUILT!!!!

Try the plug in type. Then you don't have to keep spraying things. Also...are the windows open in your house? I know you are further south than us. Because if they are then the fresh air would be blowing the Feliway away faster???

Noooo it's still too cold to open the windows. I'll get the plug in type too. WHERE do I plug it in? In my husband's study where she is hiding or get several???? She is one high maintenance. This stuff is expsensive! :D

It is expensive but if life calms down and your Shadow becomes a bit braver it is worth it. It tells you on the box how many square feet it covers. I would either get a couple or try a central location. It is so difficult to see them unhappy, I sympathise with you so much.

I am going to stop on my way home tomorrow night and get the Comfort Zone.
Denyce... does the Comfort ZOne diepense the spray automatically? how does it work? I plug itinto the wall and is it like a room air freshener that only cats can smell?
How long does the plug in last?

The bottle that comes with the plug in has a wick, and by opeing cap and screwing it into plug in dispenser, the phermones are sent through the air. It is supposed to mimic the scent left when a cat rubs his or her check against something, and is touted to have an overall calming affect.

There is no smell for humans to detect, which I was concerned about because I HATE most fragrances and only use unscented litter.

Good luck with it, and let us know if it seems to help your situation. It is too soon for me to report on my experience, but fingers crossed for success! :)

When I first read your post.. I had to look twice as my name is Debra and our daughter is Elizabeth... Liz or LIzzy to her friends. You made me smile.:)

I also used to show Siberian HUskies and saw your beauties ... They are onery but so loving babies.

I am going to stop at PetCO on my way home tomorrow an dsee if they have the plug In. We are getting a PetSmart, and it's to open soon. If PetCO doesn't have the spray, I'll have to wait until the weekend to get it at Petsmart about 30 minutes away.
I don't care how much it costs. If it will calm my Shadow down and make her a happy kitty again..... well as happy as a calico can be.:D

Both my Huskies are now at the RB, and I agree that the breed certainly seems to have a mind of their own. Shasta, expecially. Sadie was more like a typical, eager-to-please dog. RIP, girls.

I've only been using the Comfort Zone plug in since yesterday so it is too soon to tell if it will live up to expectations. I paid like $42.00 at PetSmart, so maybe your Petco will have it cheaper. Petco seems to be higher on cat food prices, but I never did any comparison to other cat items. I know what you mean about not caring about cost, when behavorial issues are involved . . . UGH!! . . . whatever works, at whatEVER the cost is my motto, too! :rolleyes:

I find they last about a month. And yes..there is no smell to us. The unit does get warm to the touch. I find that the effects seem to increase as time goes on. Last night my whole crew ate better than than have in a while and this morning Deirdre was in a much better mood than she has been. She always hates weekday mornings because I have to leave for work. As she senses the time growing close for me to get up she starts to growl and grumble and hiss. But this morning it wasn't as intense. I have had this one in for about 5 days now.

I know what you mean about the Husky babies. I showed "Ferd" for several years.. he hated it. He was a free spirit. When he jumped up on the judge an dlicked his face, I knew he had no career in the ring. He was our "first born". Oh how I loved that boy. We adopted him when he was almost3 from a breeder. It was love at first sight. We got him in Balitmore and were on our way back to NC and then off to Calif. When JIm stopped at a McDOnalds in DC and got Ferdie his own Cheeseburger and water... he knew he had two suckers on the line.:D Maybe they are all at the RB playing together and waiting for us. He was ao awesome. We were on our way back from Calif to NC and got stopped in NM by a Stae policeman for speeding or something. It was late at night, Ferd was asleep in the back seat... JIm was talking to the policeman and all of a sudden that boy woke up... the POliceman looked at him and Ferdie stuck his head out the window gave this guy a big ole wet juicy lick on the face. I thought this guy was going to pass out.:D

I was so tired tonight that I didn't stop.... my job is so stressful that I am drained at night. I am going to get that plug it. Maybe you and I can compare notes on how the kitties are doing!

UPDATE: I was dismayed to realized that although Feliway plug in says it lasts for 6 weeks, after only THREE weeks the container was about empty so I had to replace it!!! :( There should be some way to regulate the amount released but apparently there is not. (I thought maybe the vents were opened all the way and that was why it evaporated in half the time the box indicates.) I'm going to contact the company, because it says right on the box that it should last about 6 weeks, and at $24.00 a refill, I can't afford changing the refill every 3 weeks. I really don't know if it has had any effect on my cats. Debra has been using the litter box consistently (knock on wood!) even though experiencing a urinary tract infection for which she is on meds now. Her pees were very tiny and frequent so the vet did an in-house urinalysis and also sent out to a lab and diagnosed UTI. No crystals were found, nor any other kidney problems.

Deb, I hope you are having a positive experience with Feliway, and your Husky story made me smile! :)

Have you had your windows open while it was plugged in? We have had our latest plugged in for about a month now and it is still about 1/3 full. The first one we used lasted about a month. We have found it makes a pretty definate difference in the aggressiveness of our cats to one another. They still don't particulary want to sleep together but they aren't out for blood anymore either. But if you get a reply from the company let me know what they said...I would be very interested.

Shadow is still hiding behind Jim's desk.. when she walks past the door that goes to the basement she slinks past it.. like she is terrified.

I don't know what else to do.

I don't know what is happening when we are working... I don't think anything... but she is terrified.. and Clayton looks like the picture of innocence. Not me Momma.. I didn't do anything!:D

I am still using the FELIWAY plug in and sometimes the spray too!

Shadow has lost about 2 pounds becasue she is so stressed out. Clayton has gained THREE because he is so happy and laid back. There HAS to be a happy medium!!!! My heart is breaking for her.. She is so precious... but she has regressed.
