Yes, I am apologising...

Every time someone has an opionion around here that differs from what the masses seem to deem apropriate they get flamed in both PM and on the boards. Everyone is entitled to what they think and for the most part can post what they want *Some moderation is neccicary, I'll admit* Why should someone get blasted for an opinion? You can ignore whomever is bothering you, I do...unless it involves a direct attack against me then I have a right to defend myself. Ok fine, I supposedly made an unfair generalization of southern people. Being from a state that is nither concidered northern or southern *Nevada earned statehood because of money, not some stupid ***ed loyalty issue to any one side* and is has a population that on average moves to another place within 5-10 years, I really don't care what state you're from. My true opinion on southerners and northerners is simply this :There are idiots, racists and ***holes from every walk of life in every state in this country. Biggotry isn't limited to America either, its every friggen where. So...I'm sorry if my jest about "rednecks" *which is a term I use jokingly to begin with* offended you. If you're one of those lucky people who actually take pride in your community/state/city whatever, Im really happy for you. I don't give a flying you know what over a picket fence about my state, my city or anything else. Maybe if I move someplace where the pride is deserving I will. I love this country, don't get me wrong...Im not treading into unpatriotic waters here. I just don't see a point to make a big deal over joke.
Flame me if you think its apropriate...but I don't think two wrongs make a right.
Again, I am making an apology to ANYONE I might have offended with the redneck comment. This isn't sarcasim either. Just because I don't care about being PC, doesn't mean others don't.

Well, I missed the thread where you originally said that, but I am glad you apologized.

I agree that people should say what they think, but your statement was harsh and a very nasty stereotype. I have lived in Texas for about 22 out of my 25 years and I'm not an idiot or a racist. You admitted your mistake though, so thats cool. I'm not going to try to argue with you.

Since your words were so harsh, I do understand why you probably got some nasty PM's, but now hopefully people can accept your apology and move on. It was very big of you to do that and I applaud you for it. In the future, when you make a point, just tone it down a bit and hopefully you won't get flamed.

:)

Here at Pet Talk, we know that every pet is special, right?

So we also believe that every person is special, too!

Thank you for your apology. Everyone here should refrain from negatively stereotyping any group, really. I have been to many parts of the country (including Nevada, Texas and California) and met wonderful people of all backgrounds. Bad people exist, but I believe they are the exception, not the rule.

Certainly everyone at Pet Talk is part of a special segment of humanity - the kind that knows and loves pets. That is what we all have in common. About everything else, we may have our differences, but those differences should always be expressed politely.

Im woman enough to admit when Im being rather...well mean. I know I have a scathing sense of humor, and admidttedly I've got to tone it down around most normal society. Humor like this for me (and a lot of people I know) is just a coping mechanisim.
Thanx *anyone* who accepted my apology. I'll try to tone myself down.
;)
You all are a lot better *and more accepting* than most people online these days.

I don't want this to come out wrong but since you are going to tone it down a little anyway I would appreciate if you could use better language. Although you used *** instead of the actual words I still find that offensive. I didn't read your origional comment reguarding rednecks but I forgive you anyway and want to thank you for the apology.

I've read and reread your post. I can't find a single sincere apology anywhere in the entire message. All I see is an angry girl making excuses for something offensive she said. Although you title it "apology," a rant by any other name is still a rant.

That's the same thing I thought, but maybe somehow this is her way of an apology.

Your opinions are your own, but don't hijack threads, especially after it's been requested that you stop.

I admit that I also missed the thread that started this....
However, I admire and applaud you for your public apology...and your recognition & offer to "tone it down"....
That comes from a big person!!!!

Speaking from somebody who has to Very Carefully watch That My Sarcastic Dragon does not Rear his Ugly Head at the wrong times!!!;)
I can relate!!!!

Thank You!!!!

It always amazes me that the things we admire most about our pets (non judgmental, forgives everything) - we are unwilling to do for our fellow human beings.

I also missed the thread - but I for one appreciate the apology and understand that sometimes we say things that we don't really mean. It takes a very mature person to admit they were wrong and publically say so. :)

lol rednecks have computers??"?? and know how to use them???!!!! wow ok now lets all not act crazy ,see I said it a joke yesss a joke a 4 letter word lol why take things like a message board and turn them to an extreme. Too many things today are takin to an extreme. We all come from different parts of the world and have different thoughts which is wut makes a good discussion or else their would just be a boring one so if someone makes a comment funny or not (to you) about your country, state, religion, name, anything!! don't go ballistic cuz it wont end your world

I agree. My goodness, lighten up, peoples.

I am always the first one to laugh at, repeat and post any jokes about Wyoming cowboys, hicks and rednecks that I find. They are funny!

The ability to laugh at oneself is a very good trait to have. Taking oneself, one's state, region, religion, etc. too seriously all the time not only is a sure way to have a heart attack at some point, but it also makes one so not fun to be around.

i agree! i guess peole just take some things too seriously when it comes to remarks about thier intelligence(sp?), but it's all in good humor right? we all make cracks about things, i personally think redneck jokes are funny, nad even though i think it seems like people make fun of people from the south more, it's not a big deal. there are red-necks everywhere (hint hint...lady down the street:P) anyway..it was just a joke... so lets all just move on and be happy. :)

Thanx

I too missed the thread but am first to admit was a blonde most of my life (darkened as I aged but still think of myself as blonde) and find dumb blonde jokes worth a smile during a bad day, dull day, any day. I don't think of them as directly critisizing blondes, just jokes about what might happen should one go through life with their eyes closed! That's totally it! no offense, no personal gripes.

Absolutely. Just because you live in the South, doesn't make you a "redneck" ... and just because you live in the North, certainly doesn't make you immune to it! I live in Wyoming and we have hundreds of thousands of rednecks here! It's a state of mind (or lack thereof), not a location.

I'm sorry such a hub-bub for an innocent comment. Sometimes words carry more power than anyone anticipates. Did you see Amercan Idol last night? The one girl said that she needed to bring out her "inner redneck" and I just about died when I thought of this thread (I was afraid to jump in until now;) ) We say things in jest and no matter the intentions, there will always be someone who mis-reads what you say. Its not you, and its not the person reading the post... its a mixture of things. Nobody has the same sense of humor (if we did, it'd be a boring world.)

As for the phrase "redneck" I remember in 9th grade, a friend had a shirt that said "genuine redneck" and I had to ask her what that meant. After she told me, I said "oh, like we northerners have white trash?" LOL.

Its all words and phrases that alone don't mean much, but put emotions and preconceptions into the mixture and things can spiral out of control.

The more I read this thread the less bad I feel...I mean I reeaaally didn't want to tick anyone off *I really dislike irking people, although in my line of work (IT) I'm really good at it lol* but the overflowing support of the ideal of "Just take a joke, sheesh!" is refreshing. :-D thank ya'll!
*I picked that up in southern Virgina...is that a redneck locale? I'm not sure*
