View Full Version : Lucas to the vet

For at least 3 days now I have been finding "jelly" poops on my rugs. Always near the litter box. Kind of like whoever couldn't quite hold it. but let me tell you, having multiples is no fun when you need to figure out who is doing what!
So I used a person's very BEST tool in detective work.......INTUITION~
I separated Lucas as my first suspect, and YES, it has been him doing the dirty deed.
So off to the vet:

The verdict is still out because the vet says that he is in good shape, no temperature, not dehydrated, not painful to the touch, holding his weight well.....

So we have a round of antibitics and some medicine for diarrhea.

Now, since my little boy Lucas is 9 years old, and we were at the vet anyway, I asked about a senior's profile (blood work up). Me and my big mouth! Poor boy would not give blood! they tried over 6 times to get enough for the test. Lucas was an angel but he kept saying "but Mom, I NEED my blood". They hope there is enough to run the test.

So let's hope the diarrhea runs its course and my boy is back to his old self soon. AND hope the blood tests don't show any problems.

Oh Poor Lucas. I hope that it isn't anything serious and that Lucas is back to his oldself very soon.
Such a good meowmie you are Jen. You went right to the source of the problem and dealt with the problem right away.
Keep us posted on the blood works.

Must the season for diarrhea... lol ... my dogs, Gretta and AnnaBelle both just got over a bout of it as well! Had to have meds from the vet too. I'm glad you found out who the sickly one was right away though, and hope Lucas is feeling better soon! It's good though that there were no signs of anything serious! Hope the bloodwork shows good results as well!;)

Yucky... jelly poo. I sure hope Lucas responds well to the meds and that there was enough blood taken to do the lab work... it sounds as if he got plenty of YOUR blood while you were trying to get HIS.

Isn't it funny how we all know our animals? Whenever there's an accident in a laundry basket... I never have to ask who it was (it would be the innocent looking orangie) but I also have a list of suspects that stops at two.:)

99% good, 1% iffy

Blood work results.
Liver values=normal
Kidney=normal
white blood count=normal
platelets=low (but they expected that due to a clot in the tube)
ever so slightly anemic

the one thing that was high and they will retest for in about 10 days was Globulins and proteins.
Could be caused by imflamation, infection or cancer.

Well, he is on antibiotics which should treat any infection and possibly any imflammation. That is why he will be retested AFTER his meds are done.

I for one am not jumping to any conclusions that he has cancer. So don't worry needlessly.

retest scheduled for March 22nd. Hope he gives a little more blood than this last time as that could have affected some results.

stool sample negative too, as I suspected.

He'd still got diarrhea, but is not missing the box so it might be getting a bit better.

I bet the antibiotics will clear things up. For now, Lucas and Katie can be co-members of the "Ewwww! Nasty medicine!" club. :)

Poor Lucas, I'm sorry to hear he is sick...

I hope the antibiotics will help him soon!

Jen, you know I'm dealing with diarrhea for a long time with Luna now, and meanwhile I'm sure she must have had some inflammation in her bowels (caused by the clostridia she had last summer) because an anti-inflammatory shot brought some improvement.

Good luck with Lucas!

The vet STILL had a difficult time getting the amount of blood needed for the test. (Very stingy, Lucas). But he was SUCH a good boy. :D
Results tonight, I think.
