Is is normal for a dog to put on some wieght when in heat? She maintained a good wieght till she went into heat and she has been putting on a few pounds in the last week. Its not enough for me to worry yet, but I want to keep an eye on it.

I dont think so, i believe they ussually loose weight as they are ussually more active, trying to find a mate, being uncomfortable, hormones etc...
It is probably just a coincidence. are you going to breed her? what breed is she? I would get her spayed asap. I would limit her food intake & give her more excersize.

it may look like she is a tiny tiny bit chubbier but only on her belly as their mamary glands swell a bit when in heat.

I don't see why she wouldn't gain weight while in heat. Don't us women gain some weight that time too? It is probably water weight gain like the rest of us get. It is a good thing for Chubbyness to occur. It means she will probably breed better and have an easier birth. If your alot concern then reduce her meals and cut out some treats. She should slim down after her heat is over. I had a Golden Retriever that did the same thing.
