I'm so excited!!!! I went to the shelter tonight and was shocked to see so many of my furry friends missing. They had 26 adoptions last week!!!!!!:D :D :D :D http://petoftheday.com/talk/images/our_smilies/biggrin.gif I have questioned them several times about their adoption policies and they are very particular. That makes me feel good. They are very succesful for such a small shelter. I'm really happy but I sure do miss a few of them.
Well there are only 137 more cats in the shelter left to go!!http://petoftheday.com/talk/images/our_smilies/frown.gif Four new ones have come in. They are young and very scared so I hope by Thursday when I go back they will be better. Poor babies.
Wow! This is overwhelming at times but nights like this help me see the good. Keep praying for all the sad and lonely kitties in shelters everywhere. There is hope for many.http://petoftheday.com/talk/images/our_smilies/smile.gif

CCL,

That's WONDERFUL news!! I'm still searching for a shelter to volunteer at. I hope I find one soon. :( I'm suffering from KOW (kitty overload withdrawal).

That is wonderful news! It's such a rewarding feeling knowing you're helping! Keep up the good work. How's the website doing? Do you think that contributed to the adoptions?

Moosmom I can see how this can get in your blood! It's emotional and yet so rewarding at the same time! I'm just so glad that it is a good shelter with good people.
One of the paid employees who does all the medicating drives 53 miles (one way) for $6.50 an hour. She comes in around noon and usually doesn't head home until around 9:00pm. She adores the animals.
There is another girl who just became a paid employee and she drives 60 miles (one way) four days a week. She was a volunteer adoption agent. She still is but has added duties at the shelter now.
They come so far because they love the animals and they wanted to help in a no kill facility.
They both drove these distances for a very long time as volunteers. I admire their dedication!!http://petoftheday.com/talk/images/our_smilies/biggrin.gif

K & L - I don't think any of my website work has helped yet. The cats weren't updated for so long that I don't think people even look at it now. The director assured me that would change but it would take time. She said they have adopted several dogs to out of state families when they saw a particular dog on the web. I'm very very happy for those dogs but it really gripes me to no end how the cats were ignored! Hopefully one day people will look there again. I'm going to keep it updated so maybe soon people will realize it. I hope so anyway because it is a lot of work. I don't even have all the cats on there yet and I already have to start deleting!!!! That's a good thing though so I'm not complaining!

Great work! It must feel wonderful to see the babies get good homes. I've got to believe that your contribution to the website played some part in it. Keep up the good work!

That's great news CCL.:D and i'm sure you had a hand in that as you made sure that the cats started getting as much attention as the dogs. Hats off to you.

I am sure the website work will help! It may take a little time but first by chance and then regularly, people will click on the cat side and see that it's updated!

Equal rights for the kitties!!!!!

Is she still there? What can you tell me about her? My son wanted her so bad and he was ready to get in the truck and come get her until he saw how far away the shelter is from us. She looks exactly like Dusty and they just adore Dusty!

Look at him and look at her (the picture on the web sight)

Laura let me tell you about Evita. She is beautiful first. She does have a little bit of an attitude though. I'm not sure how much of that the fact that she has been in a cage for so long. Most of the girls at the shelter call her nasty but I take her out and hold her all the time. I think she gets over stimulated easily. It's probably from a lack of attention so when she does get loved on she just doesn't know what to do with too much at once. She is front declawed so she will nip at you when she wants down. She has never hurt me just nipped so that I know she wants down. When she is standing and not being held she can't seem to get enough neck scratches! I personally really like Evita but I do think someone who is familiar with cats and their attitudes would be best for her.
The really sad thing is that when these cats are caged for so long its hard to tell what they could blossom into in an open and loving environment.
I don't know her age or anything but if you need more info on her I could get her paperwork pulled and see what else they know about her.
She really does look like your sons kitty!! They could be twins!

Yea, pull her paperwork and see what you can find out on her although this is wishful thinking about getting her. I was just looking at the kitties on the web sight last night while I was IM'ing with him and I saw her and dropped him the link and he just had a FIT! "I WANT HER! I WANT HER!" is what he said. I asked him did he see your location and his heart fell as fast as her picture made it rise. Dusty is a rescue from a kill shelter and he got him 24 hours before the deadline and that cat is unbelieveable!! Anything goes with Dusty, he is so laid back and so affectionate. He has this little cart thing on wheels that had a string on it and Dusty pulls that thing all over the house, it is just the funniest thing you ever saw! And to think he was 24 hours away from being done away with...I HATE kill shelters!!!

Amen Laura! Kill shelters make me sick!
I know we are a really good distance apart but I'm not sure of the actual number of miles. I'll see what all I can find out about her. One of the big things I will check on is how she does with other cats. Like I said I personally really like Evita and I make a point to spend lots of time with her because others think she is a little cranky. I think she just lets you know what she wants and if you follow her lead she is fine. If she were out of her cage and had freedom and lots of love who knows what she might be like. She might forever have an attitude or she might turn into a huge love muffin. It's a guessing game when they are caged like that. I will say that she knows my voice now and I can walk into the room and kind of holler EVITA and she gets real excited to see me. She starts rubbing all over her cage and can't wait for me to come see her. She gives me lots of love.
I will let you know as soon as I get her info. I will be there Monday night so I should be able to let you know something after that.
I would love for someone great to get her. It would be nice to know what happens to some of them after they are adopted.
I'll keep you posted on Ms. Evita.
