Nebo's going to be eating his dinners in my room with the door shut from now on.

Nebo is food aggressive with dogs, not people. I could take a big juicy steak right out of his mouth and he wouldn't react at all.

I give him his breakfast in his kennel and I usually give him his dinner on his bed. Tonight I was just sitting on the couch a few feet from his bed. He wasn't even eating his dinner, just laying near it. I guess Reggie came up to his food or something...I was watching TV, not looking that direction. I just heard some growling (from both dogs) and a quick scuffle.

Reggie's lower lip was bleeding. :( It wasn't bad, and he's fine now. Reggie growls over food too, but he eats his in a separate room where Nebo is not allowed.

Nebo spent the rest of the night in a time-out. Right now he's laying on my floor looking guilty. *sigh*

Sounds like that might be a good idea Amy. After all it's better to be safe then sorry...where the heck did that saying come from?... I can't feed my crew at the same time because Winter thinks that Smudge will take her food.

Now Nebo....I know that you like your food and all but really, try to be a good boy and don't go getting in to any more trouble. You know what it does to your mother you goof. ;) :D

I have to do the same thing with mine.
Kito can be a little devil about his food, so he gets his on one side of the baby gate, Jada gets hers on the other side of the gate, and Riley and Abbey get theirs together downstairs. They both eat so fast anyway, it's best to keep them away from the others' food.

Nebo--don't be causing fights with your brother, ok??;)

Don’t fell bad, it’s actually pretty normal, I think. Aneko is the guarder of the food here and will attack anyone who gets near it. This includes her chewies. Millie will growl, and surprisingly, Chester could care less about guarding his food or chewies. It’s all about his mommy for him. :)

Hi WolfQ!

Oz is actually food aggressive too. Well the Collie version of it anyway. I'd put down 3 bowls, with exactly the same food in it every morning. Murph and Maddie would go pick a bowl to eat from and it was never the same from day to day. It would vary. Neither of them seemed to have a concern over food at all, even though Maddie could be really cranky towards Murph and Oz over other things.

However, with Oz, no matter which bowl was left for him, he'd stand about 4 feet from M&M and bark at'em. They of course would completely ignore him. He wouldn't stop barking at them, until I'd tell him to go eat from the remaining bowl. A couple of times, when he was younger, he even peed in the bowl Murph was eating from, as if to claim it as his. I guess I would classify him as passively aggressive about food, so I haven't made any changes really, but if there was ever any growling or snapping, I'd have them eat separately too.

Yep. Better safe than sorry.

Sorry you got hurt, Reggie! Abby's never been food agressive. My uncles old dog growled at Abby while he was eating a treat and when Abby jump, she hit almost her eye on the railing of our metal bench outside. She had a bump right above her eye for a week. :(

Me too,
I separate Sheba and Rocky during feeding time.
Rocky and Pepper or Pepper and Sheba can feed together,
but not Sheba and Rocky.

Feeding separate has worked for me. :)

a growl and quike scuffle was it? I am sorry but if you though 1 small scuffle was scarey you would be terrified at my house! none of my dogs are aggressive, but with 6 dogs of varying ages its happens. er well misty starts most of em, she ends up in all of them, not because she is aggressive or anything, but when she see's a scuffle she thinks "woohoo! FUN!" and jumps in! anyway for the food, all our dogs have places they eat, misty in her kennel in the dining room, happy over by the sink for breaky and the back door for supper, blair in him kennel in the kitchen, shadow in her corner opposite the stove, perky and Ripley eat breaky in the bathroom, and supper right beside the stove.

My dog couldnt care less! She will lay back and let the cat eat her food! When the cat's finished than she will eat. Thats a little different with special treats. Its probably best to feed them at different times and different rooms. Like everyone else is saying--Rather be safe than sorry.

Well I've still let Nebo eat his food on his bed, I've just tried putting Reggie and Sydney in a different room.

Nebo suddenly has no appetite. He had barely eaten anything for the past two days...I locked up Reggie and Sydney then gave him his bowl of food. He sniffed it then went to sleep. I let Reg/Syd out and he was magically starving. Such a brat!
