It's the "answer to the life/universe" week!!
My attempt at a free-form Thursday....
NO DOTD this week.....
Everyone is on their own.....Except Mario....
That kid gets into more trouble....

Are you abandoning ship this week?
Do you REALLY want to leave us on our own?
Just because Mark Martin didn't win the Daytona 500, is no reason to pout! There's a whole season for him to win!
It's 61 here. I'm having a cherry limeade to celebrate! YIPEEEE!!!
I brought my own since Mario ate all the cherries last time. While I don't mind sharing, I'd rather not have a monkey paw finshing around in my soda trying to grab the cherry out, so I put a lid on it!:D

Mario, I'm afraid, is still recovering from the weekend trip; he went a little "ape" in Seattle.
Well, since it's a free form bar this week, I think I'll just slip behind the bar and whip up a batch Margaritas. I'm feeling like a trip to Margaritaville. Anyone want to join me???
Laurie.....check in please.
Gini......where are you????

I don't know what I'll have to drink yet, but I'll propose a toast to Jo and Amy, in memory of Binx and Smokey :(

42
42 is the number from Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy from which all meaning ("the meaning of life, the universe, and everything") could be derived.
A BBC radio script based on Adams' book contains the following lines:
("Cave man" lays out following sentence in Scrabble stones: "What do you get if you multiply six by nine?")
Arthur: Six by nine? Forty-two? You know, I've always felt that there was something fundamentally wrong with the Universe.
(Faint and distant voice:) Base thirteen!
For the literal-minded and those unfamiliar with terms like "base thirteen," this is a number system in which the number 10 is equivalent to our more familiar decimal 13. A base-13 number 42, therefore, is the same as four 13s plus 2, or decimal 54. So "six by nine" (six times nine) or decimal 54 is, in base 13, 42. For the mystically inclined, 42 in base 13 is the same as 110110 in binary (base 2). This could mean almost anything, and many Adams fans have spent untold hours discovering all of the places where the number "42" pops up. For example, there are many mentions of the number in the Book of Revelation. Others have made a game of finding 42s, such as these:
The angle at which light reflects off of water to create a rainbow is 42 degrees.
Two physical constants in the universe are the speed of light and thediameter of a proton. It takes light 10 to the minus 42nd power seconds to cross the diameter of a proton.
The sum of the ordinal alphabetic positions of the initials (SPG) for Stan (P.) Gibilisco, an oft-published science and technology writer, is equal to 42 (S=19, P=16, G=7).
A barrel holds 42 gallons.
(It should be noted that all of these 42's are base 10, not base 13.)

I am not abandoning thursday's, I just thought that we needed a break from the 'structured'

To Smokey and Binx - you will be missed.
I need a double Margaritaville right about now - Slick - ever have Margarita's with a swirl of Sangria? Very good - I had that when I was in Texas last September.
Work kind of sucks here today - the "reorganization" continues and I learned yesterday that a long time employee is being laid off on Friday. She doesn't even know yet and I have to stay quiet. (I know this because I'll be doing some of the work that she currently does).

I found out about being "RIF'ed" (reduction in force) when the big boss and my boss came to my office, the Big boss asked me what my job description was.....I told her "Data Clerk"-
My boss said, "You mean 'Dead End' clerk..."
I got my revenge tho....I wrote a letter and a week later she was shown the door.....

I'm here. Worn out from the show but here anyway (don't want to lose all that overtime I made working the weekend and Monday holiday time ;) ). Had to stick a sock in Mario at the airport. Slick, what if he had "gone off" there  , can you just see me explaning Mario to the security guards!! OK everyone, Slick gave me a Mario clone as a present and of course I had to name him Mario. His arms & legs go all screwy and he makes this great, loud noise. Sometimes he does it when he's just sitting there I found out, you don't need to excite or tickle him or anything. We laughed so hard (at so many things) I'm sure people thought we were wack-o. Lots of stories to tell but I'm dry, let me get a few drinks first :p Gini, is your computer still broken? I'll call you tonight (if Slick doesn't get me all tipsy).

Hey, I was only at the conference as a Guest of Laurie's. You'd better ask Laurie about her job description.
The Conference is a yearly one that's put on by AAAS (American Association for the Advancement of Science) and this year it happened to be in Seattle. The general public is allowed to go (for a fee I think) and there are information booths and all kinds of science education booths for children. The cloned mules were in a section of their own, but I'm not sure who sponsored by.
Check this out: http://www.aaas.org/meetings/
There were all kinds of seminars as well. I was only there for 1 night so did not get to attend much, but what I saw was very interesting.
I'm sure when Laurie logs on she can tell you more. I may not have all the facts straight

Well I am back, didn't see anything at that auction I wanted. So I guess I'll take a giant sized beer!
Oh by the way dukedogsmom, I went on ebay and done a search on buy-polar and she still has her lovely teapot for sale. She is also offering to break up with your boyfriend, or quit your job for you!
BREAK UP/ QUIT JOB SERVICE
...that's where I come in. I will politely (or psychotically -- your choice) break up for you. I will phone your boyfriend, disguising my voice like yours, or muffling it through tube sock. Then I "pull the trigger" on him while you're out clubbing it!!! Isn't that great? I will also quit jobs for you; any job. I have VAST personal experience in this area. NOTE: Quitting jobs with no notice will be subject to a small premium. I usually like to offer one or two weeks, but again, the choice is yours! Please contact with questions or concerns.
She is still using the same picture too! Wow! ;)
Okay, where my beer??

Hey, guys!
Now you've got "Margaritaville" playing over and over in my head...we should fix that jukebox!
(xylophone intro)
"Livin' on spongecake...watchin' the sun bake...all of the tourists, all covered with oil...
"Blew out my flip-flop...stepped on a pop-top...
"But there's juice in the blender...soon it will render...that frozen concoction that helps me hang on...Wastin' away again..."
(kicks jukebox)
"I was drunk...the day my mom...got out of prison...and I went...to pick her up...in the rain...
"but before I could get to the station in my...pick-up truck...she got runned over by a damned old train..."

Hey everybody - WAKE UP!!!! It's Friday!!!
And....are you ready.....it's my birthday!!! Yep, 42 years ago right about this time my mom was swearing she was never going to let my dad touch her again! :p :D
They tell me my older brother (2 years older) hid under the bed when they brought me home from the hospital. Guess I scared him.
I think I've had enough margaritas for one week, so lets see....what other kind of drink do I like....I'm giving up Coke for good and today's my first day without so I'm dying for one of those, but I'll take a pass.
Hmmm..oh I know, how 'bout one of those cherry lime aids that MOFF is always drinking? That sounds good to start the day off with. We'll get to the hard stuff later....
And Mario's been such a good little monkey this week that I think he deserves a beer too. :D

I'm doing the worried mom thing today. The boy is off on an adventure (first one alone in his new truck ) taking brother in law to the doc. and his buddy with hiim in to thebig city. Why is it hso hard to let go!!! I know hes 20 but hes the one that almost died twice and has a slower learning pace so hes about even with his 17year old buddy. The buddy just came back from Montana youth challange(pre boot camp for kids having trouble in reg school , he did so well that he can pass boot camp in the summer and go right into the navy or marines (he wants to fly jets)
I think I need a rum and dt coke today.

T&P's Mom, your 42 birthday is the 42nd week of Thursdays  That's amazing and you should sit in the chair of honor *quick, someone clean off a chair by the fireplace* and let us serve you whatever you want... and plenty of it :D Something special to munch on perhaps? Mahayana, you do have the strangest music going through your head sometimes. Wasn't the country/western tune from someone (can't remember who) who said the perfect song must have the words "mother, drunk, train, prison & pick-up truck" ? Who was that? Oh well... one less brain cell to work with.

Happy Birthday!!! I've been 42 for almost a year no problems in fact I think I actually like getting older . No one believes me even when I have my 20yr and my22yr with me. I even got carded at the grocery store for wine the other day. (wonder if he was just making me feel better)
Enjoy the once in a lifetime day.!!!:p :p

Could the universe be any more cosmically (sp?) balanced?
A big Hippo Birdies to you T&P - I'll buy you that drink. I think I'll start my Friday morning with one of Richard's famous Bloody Ceasars.
Corrinna - you still get CARDED? I should have that problem- but hey, that's great - enjoy it while you still can.;) True story, once when my husband and I went out to dinner, they carded him but not me - ok I am four years older than him but I'm not a cradle robber! I was probably near the age of 42 at the time. )

The best part of the story was Clarissa (22Yr daughter) was there and didn't get carded!!:) The Ben (20yrson ) laught so hard at it thought they would kill each other. Once mymom intrduced me to our new vet as here sister. She was about 45 and I was 13. May dad always calls me by his favorite sisters name. I'm surprized I wasn't named Anna. Parents what can you do?!

After my parents' car accident, my dad was kinda loony because he banged his head pretty good. He introduced me to the nurse as his sister. And he introduced my Aunt as his girlfriend.  My mom was in her own hospital room but it would have been interesting to see how he introduced her. :p
Thanks everybody, I'll just sink into this comfy chair here...oh, why thank you so much Mario! How did you know carrot cake was my favorite? :D Although actually, as we were growing up, my mom would bake whatever kind of cake we wanted for our birthdays. I always chose the angel food with the colored speckles in it. So now I don't even have to ask. If I went home this weekend I know my mom would have it waiting for me. :D
Oh, and it's about 1 1/2 or so since I've been carded..... :)

Well I guess we should start carding here in the bar ,since I see some of the younger ones occasionally do come in. Shall we start with you T&P ?
I am calling poor Ben by hubbys name or by Merlin. He just looks at me with the "Mom you poor looney lady"look and a says either I'm the blonde one (hubby has black hair) or I'm Ben , the less hairy one!
I guess as you age it's a waty of denile. Not the river.;)
What music can we play for you today?
I sure wish I could spell today!!!

Richard: I bragged too much too soon yesterday! I got called in today so I'm here at work :( So I can be in misery with everyone else. Happy Birthday T&P! Ugh, I'll be 40 later this year. Kay Ann's mom thought I was only 27! That really made my day. Hopefully I can keep that up. Guess since I'm at work I have to do without the alcohol. So, how about a Cherry slushie? That sounds really good. Does anyone remember those drinks that you could get from machine at convenience stores? They were called slush puppies.

Well, so far the birthday's going good. The boss is leaving me alone for the most part, the phone is not ringing, the doorbell is not ringing, pretty quiet around here in other words. :D
I'm trying to make a CD that will "autorun." You know, when you put it in the CD tray it automatically starts itself. Anybody know how to do this?
I'll have a Long Island Iced Tea, please. The cocktail hour has begun so bring 'em on! :D
Oh, and I guess I was feeling a little low this morning because Terry left without even saying happy birthday. I wasn't too surprised since he's been such a crab lately  and I got my present last night, but I thought he'd at least say happy birthday. Well, I just got a call from him and he was all apologetic. He knew today was Friday, but he thought it was the 19th. He thought the 20th was tomorrow and that's why he didn't say anything. Okay!!!
Christmas, Christmas time is near,
Time for toys and time for cheer,
We've been good, but we can't last
Hurry Christmas, hurry fast,
Want a plane that loops the loop,
Me, I want a hula hoop,
We can hardly stand the wait,
Please Christmas, don't be late.
Okay fellas, get ready.
That was very good, Simon.
Naturally.
Very good Theodore.
Ahkhkhkh.
Ah, Alvin, you were a little flat, watch it.
Ah, Alvin? Alvin. ALVIN!
Okay!!!
Want a plane that loops the loop,
I still want a hula hoop,
We can hardly stand the wait,
Please Christmas, don't be late.
We can hardly stand the wait,
Please Christmas, don't be late.
Very good, boys.
Let's sing it again!
Yeah, let's sing it again!
No, That's enough, let's not overdo it.
What do you mean not overdo it?
Overdo it?
We want to sing it again!
Now wait a minute, boys...

I was taking Jojo for a walk this morning, and saw the back door open at the Cyberbar...
What a week! Snow last weekend, then it hit 78 degrees on Thursday, big duststorm with red skies on Friday, it's supposed to rain today through Tuesday.
Do you mind if I put some daffodils in a beer bottle on the bar?
lbaker posed a trivia question:
" Mahayana, you do have the strangest music going through your head sometimes. Wasn't the country/western tune from someone (can't remember who) who said the perfect song must have the words "mother, drunk, train, prison & pick-up truck" ? Who was that? Oh well... one less brain cell to work with."
Hint...the answer is in one of the verses.
I was thinking of putting some jazz on the jukebox, I love everything with saxaphone solos. All I see here is "The Year Of The Cat," does anyone know how to add a couple of Stanley Turrentine CDs to the menu?
Anyway, there's some coffee on for anyone that needs a cup!
Miss me?;)

I spoke with Gini for an hour on the phone yesterday. She's fine.. just going through Pet withdrawls... still has broken computer. Her work one doesn't have Internet hookup so she can still work, just can't keep up with us. Phred.. I'm p.m'ing you about something she said.
L
Main part of computer arrived on Friday - got it together on Saturday - found some problems - had fun nine year old niece all day Sunday and part of Monday - tackled the computer problems
and after talking to Manilla - India - and Nova Scotia (seriously)
everything is working and here I am.
So I find out that Thursdays is now called 42. Yeah, I remember that age just like it was 300 years ago. (even though no one respects it, I am a senior member here).
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEBBIE - and many many more (a very late wish).
So I wade through nine pages and what do I find????
Mario is missing (have you checked the empty Budweiser boxes?)
Corinna is worried about son driving truck (yup, I sure get that one).
Stuff is coming out of somebodies nose....
Someone has something in their ear.........
Slick and Laurie have cloned WHAT???? (oooo, I want one!)
(oh sorry, I thought you said a man).
Empty margarita glasses are everywhere
Willy - who hung her up by the tag on her nightie? Wow, she is sound asleep.
Everybody is singing some wierd song about Mama under the train - oh dear.
And I just stopped by to whine about being away from the bar for over two weeks -
Now I know why they call it AA....................it stands for
AWFUL ATTITUDE
when you have been deprived of fun and good drinks and especially dear and good friends.
Richard, thanks for checking in for me and I apologize for taking you away from your work
:D
It is good to be back - ignoring laundry and housestuff, paying bills and all those life's endearing chores and just hang out here and have some fun.
A HUGE Apple Martini is my request...................in one of those really big martini glasses, not those little wimpy things that you can hardly pick up.
I missed you all terribly - and I say that stone sober before the Apple Tini is served..........

Gini, I'm glad you came in and helped me down from the fan. I would hate to have been found like this when Thursday opened this week! And in my nightie too!
We are all so glad to see you, Mario is really happy to see you. He has been swinging from the rafters since you came in.
I think we should all have a drink to celebrate gini's return. I'm buying, so lets drink up!!!
