Potential danger of certain wire kennels (http://www.kennelsafety.com/)

I can't remember if Kia's crate is a PetMate brand or not. It does look similar and while Kia's never tried to get out of her crate, I'll be sure to reinforce it just to be extra careful.

Such a sad tragedy. :(

We used Zip Ties to strangthin mine ( You can see the thread I made about this here ... http://www.petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=43885 )

Here is how I made mine safer. You can't lift the top off at all, not even an inch. They are working wonderfully! And they are REALLY strong so no worry there.

Here are some pics..

This Zip Tie is on the front of the crate, by the door. I found I only needed one on this side, but it might very with crates.

On the back of the crate I (side with no door) I found I needed two to keep it secruly shut.

Then, so the dog wouldn't chew on the zip ties I cute the left over off and got this (front side)

And here is the packet off Zip ties that I got from Lows (Home Depot or another place like this will work)

I would say there are at LEAST 30 to 35 in here, this bag cost my dad around 2 dollars

Hope this helps anyone else!

I just noticed that you posted about this yesterday. Sorry for the additional post!

Question Ashley... does your crate have the option of folding up?

Yes mine folds up. In order to do that though you will have to cut the zip ties and replace them with new. It's ok, I just wanted to make sure you saw the post. :D

I say you can't get the word out enough about this tragic story. All this info will help save many pet lives. Thank you so very much "Aspen and Misty" for your very helpful idea. I plan on doing this to mine.............. right away. I have that crate or a very simular one, my three "weenie" boys sleep in it every night.

Thank you.

Both Sierra & Buddy have those crates, Sierra has gotten out of hers once, and Buddy is in the process of destroying his crate. He has almost every hook on the entire front pnl bent, the door is bowed out so far you have to push on the door to get the latches latched. I'll take pictures soon!
He likes his crate for protection, but does not like being in it when I'm not home. Crazy dog!!
