A very cute cat today. My cat, zezu, is 7 months old now. What a little rascal he is. He frightened us one day when I let my 2 finches out for some exercise. I usually keep a watchful eye one them when everyone is out and about. But this time I just plum forgot that the birds were out. When I stupidly remembered, I said to myself "uh oh, where are those birds?" I realized that my cat had cornered one in the bathroom. So, not thinking again, I flushed them both out of the bathroom. The bird flew into the wall and Zezu got his jaws on him and ran as fast as he could to get away with his prize. It took me almost 5 minutes to catch the little bugger. I pryed open his jaws and rescued the bird. Surprisingly, the bird was unharmed. I stroked the bird until he came to, and returned him to the cage with his nervous friend. I was quite releaved. I can't blame Zezu, only myself for not watching him. If he had been an adult cat, this story would have had a sad ending. I'll just have to be careful. But your hummingbird story reminded me of this.

What an incredible story...Good Zezu!! Are the finches so trained that they will be allowed outdoors and not fly away?! What kind of finches are they? Well, just glad that everyone is well and whole! Give em all a pat on the head!!!

The Finches are Spice Finches. You say "good zezu", I say "bad zezu". But I can't be mad at him, you can't stay mad at zezu long. Plus it was my fault for putting two arch enemies in the same room. To answer your question, no, the finches don't go outside by themselves. I took them out only once in their cage. I live in an apartment building so it's tough to take em out. I let em fly inside once and a while. The little rascals sometimes won't go back in. But since their food and water is in there they eventually go back inside. I don't recomend having a cat and finches together. I bought the finches first and then a friend asked me if i wanted a kitten. I went over to see it and the 2 month old little guy was romping all over leading his siblings around, so i couldn't resist. The finches are afraid of everything and everyone. They do tolerate me putting my hand in the cage to change the water, but the don't like to be held and it's very hard to keep a hold of them. At one point, I had them landing on me to get string for their nest, then the cat came, that was the end of my progress with them. I don't blame them for wanting to stay up close to their lofty apartment. I really got to get around to sending my pets pictures in.
