View Full Version : Thursdays #40 - Hard Day's Night

slick

Feb 9, 1964 was when the Beatles first made their television debut on the Ed Sullivan Show. I was one of the many "chickadees" that screamed in my living room that night.

Let's drink to John, George and Linda. May they RIP.

On with the party. I've got my original LP Hard Day's Night and invite you all to bring your vinyl.

Are their any hairdressers in the house??? Beatle haircuts for free! :)

Whatever the DOD is, make sure it doesn't need cherries. Catland reminded me that Mario ate all the cherries last week. Let me make a quick stop at the store and pick up some goodies! also the 5 & dime to pick up some balloons hehehe (hmmm, do they still have 5 & dime stores?) Be right back.

vinyl? How about Sargent Pepper? I'll wear the a groovy Nehru jacket and put some flowers in my hair. I'll bring my Lava Lamp from home.

I remember good old Ed too. and the early Beatle's 45's like "She loves you" and "I want to hold your hand" - and to think they were scandalous for their time with their oh so long hair.;)

oops, she must have heard I was going to the store to pick up balloons.. she's probably picking up her slicker from the cleaners or something. Or maybe she's here but just being invisible  Slick, you did mention guts and I was thinking about Steak & Kidney Pie (veddy British you know) but the thought of preparing animal organs just makes me want to hurl  I'll think of something else by tomorrow. YIKES! one week from today and I'll be in Seattle!

Sure they do, although they're called DOLLAR stores these days. ;)

I was never really a fan of the Beetles. I did enjoy the Ed Sullivan show though.

Feb 9, 1964.....hmmmm....don't remember much....I was just about to turn 2, so I guess I was thinking of ways to terrorize my mom for a whole year. ;) :D

That DOD sounds yummy! I'll have one of those - no cherries please. :D

And yes, Richard, I heard you and I HATE WORK too. We'll have to have a I HATE WORK Thursday one of these weeks. ;) :D

T&P: One DOTD DONE! Hold the cherries and the guts
Nice balloons Laurie. When the bar closes we can have a balloon busting contest.

That reminds me of when I was little; my friend and I stuck balloons up our T-shirts to see what we would look like all grown up. Funny how some things never turn out the way you think :D

Here we are, Mario and I have both arrived. I have been hiding at the doctors office today complaining with my poor, poor foot. Don't broke bones ever quit hurting?? Its been almost a year in April!

Richard you did slightly mention that you hated work, but just slightly.

Today is my oldest daughter's Birthday, she is 29 today. I stopped off to pick up balloons her husband had ordered for her, there was 5 balloons, now there are only 4. One of them escaped and is now flying somewhere over Tennessee! Let me know if any of you see a purple balloon flying over your house, I kind of doubt it will stay in Tennessee, you will know it is the one I lost!!!

I'll take the DOTD and give Mario a beer. I don't care what kind of music you play.... Anything will do!!:D

Why do we all look like this when we come in here? example :D

I'm having a super duper big hot chocolate here in snowy Kansas. I'm thinking about making ground hog stew out of a certain rodent who lives in PA! (Just kidding, Phil, you are safe from me. It's not YOUR fault they wouldn't let you sleep and insisted on dragging you out and waving you in the air. Good thing for them you aren't prone to air sickness, huh?)

Sorry, this snow has me wound up!!!:D

Believe it or not, "Magical Mystery Tour" is playing on my radio right this very moment.

Tray - I think I'm a little too far away, but if I find the balloon, I'll bring it here.

T&P - on some level I can relate - I had older cousins who all thought that the sun rose and set on Elvis and I could never see the attraction.

I turned 8 in '64. OMG - that means I'm going to be 48 this June.

Starting to feel it now happened this morning. Tomorrow will tell. I filed a police report as it is the reposiablity of home owners and business to keep them clear. It was the church and the pastors drive way part odf the side walk. so I may be typing laying down tomorrow.

Corinna
02-04-2004, 05:57 PM
Well I did that in case i have to go to the hospital and so they get them to get it cleared off. It is the only sidewalk to the senior center. I can just see a broken hip. I already witnessed a broken ankle at a local gas station. Of course no one was around to witness my fall, thought I might have to use my cell phone to call for help but after a couple mintues I found nothing broken.

Corrina....

Welcome to the land of bumps, dumps and lumps...
I started it last week with a slipped disc-OH!

I am sorry I am not a good host this week.

My best friend is going thru a bad time, from what I understand her step-mom is dying and I have some other bumps in my road for the next few days....

Corinna, sorry about your fall! I know that had to hurt. Don't feel bad, I don't need ice to make me fall. I fall down all the time anyway. My family calls me a Klutz, I fall over anything. Thats how I broke my foot last April, and have had several falls since then.
I hope you feel better tomorrow, but I bet you will be sore.

Well my daughters birthday went well, I told her you guys were watching for her purple balloon to come flying over.

Now I think I will take another DOTD, give Mario another beer, he looks like he might be getting sleep now...

Nomilynn, Happy Anniversary to you and Lirathal! Six years?

captain, no telling where that balloon will end up, I just waved at it as it went flying out of the truck. It was supposed to be tied together, but oh well!

Where is amoore? I think she is the one hiding now.

Thanks slick, I'll tell my daughter you said Happy Birthday.

OUCH!!!

Corinna and Miss Meow, I'm sorry you both fell--that sucks!!
Glad neither of you were seriously hurt though.

A few years ago, I was coming out of a store, where I had just purchased a coffee table, 2 end tables, and something else fairly large, and in a big box. I was pushing my cart out into the parking lot, and couldn't see in front of me because of the boxes, and I pushed it right into a hole, and lost control and fell right down in the parking lot!!!!
No one offered to help me up though:o
I had some nice bruises, and this was a week or so before my wedding.

Hope you both keep from getting too sore!!!

I'm here, but I'm lurking again! Just couldn't stay visible very long, its just beyond my power. I have to concentrate too hard.

Poor everybody that had a fall. I really feel for you. I feel off some steps one time that had ice on them started at the first upper step and ended at the third or fourth step at the bottom. I yelled for my husband to come help me up, but he was sleeping in his recliner which was right by the door I had just went out, he didn't hear me. So anyway I ended up crawling back into the house and up the stairs to bed. Really bad pain!

I'll take a Hot Buttered Rum, and Mario don't need anything. I think he is asleep...

Slick- it's called "Revolution #9" on the White album. The infamous song with the hidden message if you turn the record backwards on the turntable. I play a lot of the songs from that album. One of my favorites-

"Blackbird singing in the dead of night...take these broken wings and learn to fly...All your life...you were only waiting for this moment to arrive..."

Oh yea, #9. Now I remember.

One of my favourite songs:

In the town where i was born,
There lived a man,
Who sailed the seas,
And he told us of his life,
In the land of Submarines,
So we sailed into the sun,
Till' we found a sea of green,
And we lived beneath the waves,
In our yellow submarine,

-Chorus-

We all live in a yellow submarine,
A yellow submarine,
A yellow submarine,
We all live in a yellow submarine,
A yellow submarine,

Now that's comfort food  Maybe Gini is giving Richard a hand at work so they can both come and play today. Feb 1964 I was in high school. One of the first U.S. concerts they gave was here in DC. Didn't have tickets but some friends & I (along with a kazillion other screaming mimi's) went to the hotel were we heard they were staying. Didn't spot them but it was fun and exciting anyway :p

I'll help clean the place up, Mario is the one throwing cherrie pits in the floor. So I think I should be the one to clean up after that little meanie.

I think I'll start out with the DOTD and cheers to catmandu, it is nice to have him back isn't it??

I hope everybody is feeling better today after the fall and spill you took yesterday and before. Just glad nobody got broken..

I haven't seen gini since she went visible!

Richard I hope your day is going well, sorry to hear you are feeling out of the loop.

Anyway, Cheers!!

I would but i did a dumb thing and throw out the software for my camera Now I have to try to find it again. I will take my 35 mm but may take a while to get it developed. I'm really bad at getting it in to be developed. last batch had pictures 2 years old on it. I think at the Whitefish chamber of commerce site has the calendar of events. I'll see if I can find it and post it.

Corrina, how long did it take you and you daughter to plan her wedding? My daughter fiance has already went out and bought the cake toper, and some other stuff. It has been so long since my other daughter got married, that I don't remember what comes first and what comes last. I need your HELP!!

I think they are moving the wedding date up to December of this year, instead of May of next year...

I need big, big, strong drink!!

I'm not Corinna, but I'm going to butt in anyway.
I got married in August of 2002, and didn't start planning until Feb of that year--I had a lot of help from my wonderful stepmother and my sister, and it was a lot of work, but we did it!!!!!
I can find you a checklist of things you need to do, if you wish. I still have a lot of those old wedding websites saved on my computer. If you (or your daughter) go to www.theknot.com , you can put in the date of the wedding, and it gives you a weekly checklist--some of it was things I didn't need, but it did help me to remember the things I did need!!!
If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask!!!

She already has the most important part, her fiance, so the rest should be a breeze!!!:)

willis we are still working on it . Hers is July 3rd. We have stil to get the invatations finished. but most all other is done. You can get a fairly inexpensive wedding planner cd at most staples or office max the one we are using gives a day by day what needs to be done.
we have the boquet yet to get and order the buttoners . the place shes having it plants so many flowers that she need not have any others. We have the cake to still decide on but we lucked out on that one of my girlfriends is a decorator for Costco so shes coming a day early to do the cake.
Just have to makle a trip to Great falls (overnight) to find his tux he wants a Doc Holiday type of western style.
Noew the bad news we have been working on it since Sept. .
I thought they weren"t getting married for a couple years did I mss something while I didn't have a computer?

Hey, here I am, I yam............

Yesterday was just one of those days from hell............my painter showed up (didn't know he was coming) to put on new hardware in my service porch he had just painted. Then he tells me that he wants to paint my picnic table. I was thinking June would have been a good month to do that - right before the BBQ. But he is here......so why not? It is a redwood table. He goes to get the paint and comes back with FIRE ENGINE RED. The color was sort of like Tray's slicker. Uh, I don't think so.........I say.

With all of this going on it was after 2:30 pm when he left. I had so much work to do - just kept at it until late last night. I had no fun at all.

Gotta share a funny Beatles story with you - I will start another post.

gini
02-05-2004, 11:24 AM
Yup, it's me again.

My step-mother had a sister who was a nun. She was teaching in a Catholic high school here in California. I remember having this conversation with her about the Beatles.

She remarked that the lyrics were just plain stupid............
yellow submarine - yellow submarine - yellow submarine......now isn't that stupid?

And she was teaching her whole class that these guys would just never make it.

I remember standing there thinking (keep your mouth shut....keep your mouth shut......keep your mouth shut.)

Corinna
02-05-2004, 11:29 AM

For everyone that fell, ouch! and I hope nothing is broken.

I have a neighbor who tripped on a tiny raised portion of sidewalk - and went down hard. She has a fracture in her pelvic bone - it has been five weeks and she still isn't back to 100% - has to use a cane or walker. So everyone, please be careful.

Now, on to more serious things........I think I need a nice strong bloody mary this morning. Oh, does that sound good - with a crisp piece of celery.

Tray, your slicker is so becoming (or going) on you............

Mario - quit spitting those pits all over the place...........you just hit me on the nose!

Hey gini, good to see you! Mario leave her alone!!

Corinna, She is now wanting to move her wedding up to December if her fiancee's brother can come in on leave. If not then they are planning for May or June. She has me so confused, I feel like banging my head on the wall.

Thanks for the sites, I am going to put them in a folder for her, so she can look at them. I may be asking for help big time, as my brain just don't seem to want to work.

She has done picked out what kind of cake she wants, somethng about stairs and a water fountain. I said 'a water fountain on a cake???' I ask her wouldn't he cake get mushy. See I have no idea about some of the stuff she is talking about.

Strong drink please!!

Tray, there is a book that I bought for my niece when she was planning her wedding and it was extremely helpful. It included every possible option and idea for weddings.....so you didn't forget anything.

It also had places or pockets in it to keep notes, make a journal, a to-do list and on and on.

It just helped her keep on track and more organized. Of course, I don't recall the name or author/publisher. But I bought it at a Barnes and Noble store. (you could look on-line).

Relax, Mom, it will all fall into place. Enjoy the chaos!!:D

She has done said she was going to make Sam think she is going to run halfway down the ale, because everybody has been telling him she would run like the one on the movie Runaway Bride. She said she was going to stop halfway down the ale, and start looking for exit signs. LOL, that would be so funny if she did pull that little stunt to scare him. My contribution.....

The Washington Post's Style Invitational once again asked readers to take
any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing
one
letter, and supply a new definition. Here are this year's (2003) winners:

1. Intaxication: Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you
realize it was your money to start with.

2. Reintarnation: Coming back to life as a hillbilly.

3. Bozone (n.): The substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright
ideas from penetrating. The bozone layer, unfortunately, shows little sign
of
breaking down in the near future.

5. Cashtration (n.): The act of buying a house, which renders the subject
financially impotent for an indefinite period.

6. Giraffiti: Vandalism spray painted very, very high.

7. Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person
who
doesn'! t get it.

8. Inoculatte: To take coffee intravenously when you are running late.

9. Hipatitis: Terminal coolness.

10. Osteopornosis: A degenerate disease. (This one got extra credit.)

11. Karmageddon: It's like, when everybody is sending off all these really
bad vibes, right? And then, like, the Earth explodes and it's like, a
serious
bummer.

12. Decafalon (n.): The grueling event of getting through the day consuming
only things that are good for you.

13. Glibido: All talk and no action.

14. Dopeler effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they
come at you rapidly.

15. Arachnoleptic fit (n.): The frantic dance performed just after you've
accidentally walked through a spider web.

16. Beelzebug (n.): Satan in the form of a mosquito that gets into your
bedroom at three in the morning and cannot be cast out.

17. Caterpallor (n.): The color you turn after finding half a grub in the
fruit you're eating.

And the pick of the literature:

18. Ignoranus: A person who's both stupid and an asshole.

The Es are calling me (or is that the red wine!)

Mario, are you being good? Don't be bothering slick and gini like that.

slick
02-06-2004, 11:43 AM
No problems here. Got lots of work to do but can fit in plenty of play time as well.

Willie: DOTD DONE! Yes, I've been known to "lounge" behind the bar in the past....:D Don't laugh, it used to be under the pool table.

Don't worry about Mario. I'm kind of attached to him now and he's become quite the bar mascot. Now, if only we could train him to use the bathroom. You guys must be tired of always changing his diapers.

trayi52
02-06-2004, 11:48 AM
I guess that next on the agenda, Mario if you want to be the mascot of the bar, you gotta learn to use the bathroom so we don't gotta change you diaper all the time.

One thing though girls, lets teach him to put the seat down when he is done!!!

Sometime in our conditions here, we might not see the seat is up, and you know how that feels! Yuck!!!!

Sorry I missed the party yesterday everyone. It's kind of slow here at work right now so I took advantage of the situation and took the day off.

Slick - thanks so much for stepping in and tending bar - kind of fun, isn't it.

I'll make some Spanish Coffee's for anyone who wants to help me clean up. Why is there a rain slicker in the corner and is there someone, or something moving underneith it?

What color is the rain slicker? Is it red?? That my rain slicker!

Wouldn't you know it, here instead of having snowdays for school, they are having flashflood warnings and letting school out for that. We haven't had not even one snow!!

We are having a very mild winter here, gets cold but no snow. If it rains, then we have some ice on our steps. I don't go out, I fall too easily!

And what is that in the rafters?????

Probably no one care......but this word made me stop and look at it and wonder about its derivation..........

Sorry, I do have days like this...........

rhineˇstone ( P ) Pronunciation Key (rnstn)
n.
A colorless artificial gem of paste or glass, often with facets that sparkle in imitation of a diamond.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[After the Rhine(translation of French caillou du Rhin : caillou, pebble + du, of the + Rhin, Rhine).]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
rhinestoned adj.
Word History: Although rhinestones are inseparably associated with the costumes of country and western singers and Las Vegas dancers, the word originally had European associations. The Rhine in rhinestone is the Rhine River, and rhinestone is a translation into English of the French phrase caillou du Rhin. Originally a rhinestone was a kind of rock crystal that was found in or near the Rhine. Other types of rock crystal, such as Cornish diamond, were given similar fancy names. Because rhinestones could be made to imitate diamonds, the name rhinestone was applied to artificial gems made from paste, glass, or gem quartz and as a result often carries a connotation of showbiz glitz.

Born a red-head, I'm (now) a natural strawberry blonde. I hate it. The roots and the layers underneath are much darker than the rest... if I go natural, I end up looking like something off of a Jerry Springer episode!

That was too loud...how about

"There are places I'll remember...all my life...though some have changed. Some forever, not for better...some have gone...and some remain..."

"Ob-la-di, ob-la-da, life goes on...bra! La la la la...life goes on!"

I just didn't want Phred to sit in the back by himself......we were hanging out at the front of the bar, doing a 'meet and greet'on everyone....

That's the best remedy for anything that pains you!

Hey, has anybody seen Sipowittz? I don't know if he got offended at being called Kermit, or...wait, is that him in the fountain cake?

Sipowittz, I'm going to put one of those waterfall pools in your greenhouse, if you promise to be good. Here's another tune for the Saturday crowd-

"I need to laugh...and when the sun is out...I've got something I can laugh about. I feel good...in a special way...I'm in love and it's a sunny day...Good day sunshine..good day sunshine..."

Ah, yes...I think that was 3 Dog Night, or was it CCR?

I was trying to think of Beatles songs with pets in them, but the Fab Four made few animal references..."And You Bird Can Sing", "Blackbird", and a nasty one about "yellow matter custard." Paul must have had a dog, Ringo a cat, I can picture George with a parrot on his shoulder, maybe John had tropical fish? Help! Does anyone know the answer to this trivia question?

"Our house...is a very, very, very fine house...with two cats in the yard...Life used to be so hard...Now everything is easy 'cause of you."

How about-

"Me and you, and a dog named Boo...travellin' and livin' off the land...Me and you and a dog named Boo...how I love bein'...a free man."

Can you think of any other pet songs from back then?

That group was Lobo.

Anyone picked the theme for Thursdays 41? Valentine's Day is Saturday, so I guess a drink with heart is called for.

"There's nothing you can do that can't be done...nothing you can sing that can't be sung...nothing you can be, but you can learn how to play the game...It's easy! All you need is love."

And a toast for Mr. Rogers-

"Will you be mine...would you be my (cyber) neighbor?"
