I am just curious what you guys think of Toby Keith's latest song "American Soldier." Is it too over the top, great, nasty, too political....? I'm sure you all know I really like it and think that it's a very nice tribute to the men and women who are putting their lives on the line for us.
I know on his Shock'n Y'all CD he has A LOT of REALLY political songs, most of which, I'm sure, they'll never release. I'm wondering if people are going to be turned off by his "in your face" views.
Just curious....

I think it is a great song, in your face is Toby's way. I don't think he would have it any other way....His new album is full of great songs, if they are too political then don't listen to it, right? He is proud to be an American and he takes full advantage of his rights as such, Roger

I love it! But then, Toby’s one of the few country singers whom I really admire, and of course I really love his music and have for years. :)

I'm just trying to be a father
Raise a daughter and a son
Be a lover to their mother
Everything to everyone
Up and at 'em, bright and early
I'm all business in my suit
Yeah, I'm dressed up for success
From my head down to my boots
I don't do it for the money
There's bills that I can't pay
I don't do it for the glory
I just do it anyway
Providing for our future's my responsibility
Yeah I'm real good under pressure
Being all that I can be
And I can't call in sick on Mondays
when the weekends been too strong
I just work straight through the holidays
And sometimes all night long
You can bet that I stand ready when the wolf growls at the door
Hey, I'm solid, hey I'm steady, hey, I'm true down to the core
And I will always do my duty no matter what the price
I've counted up the cost, I know the sacrifice
Oh, and I don't want to die for you
but if dyin's asked of me
I'll bear that cross with honor
'cause freedom don't come free
I'm an American soldier, an American
beside my brothers and my sisters I will proudly take a stand
when liberty's in jeopardy I will always do what's right
I'm out here on the front lines
Sleep in peace tonight
American soldier, I'm an American soldier
Yeah, an American soldier, an American
beside my brothers and my sisters I will proudly take a stand
when liberty's in jeopardy I will always do what's right
I'm out here on the front lines
So Sleep in peace tonight
American soldier, I'm an American
An American, an American soldier

i looked up the lyrics...went to yahoo search, typed in toby keiths' american soldier and got several hits to look at. i like the lyrics on reading them. we, as a nation, get such amazing things from our sons and daughters in the military. i so wish and pray our troops come home to their families soon.

I love that song.
One thing I think people sometimes forget is everyone in our armed services joined of their own will. No one was drafted. Like the song says, they counted up the costs, but joined anyway.
I don't think we can honor them enough.

I LOVE the song and love Toby Keith's willingness to display his patriotism - yes IN YOUR FACE is his style. But, his dad was a veteran and why not use his position to promote patriotism? I think it is terrific :D

I saw Larry King last night and Toby was on...
I like Toby alot, but I have even more respect for him now.
He handled the Dixie Twit controversy like a gentleman and showed how much class he had be not making a big todo about it.....
He showed more class than Maines did...they showed a pic of her in her F.U.T.K. t-shirt.......

We watched the interview that Mike Wallace did with him. It was on last night after his Super Bowl special on CMT....he said he was disappointed in himself with the way he handled himself with the Natalie Maines fiasco. I respect him a lot too. He does have his faults, like everyone, but, he's pretty classy. They showed his home in OK...WOW! very impressive.
