Romeo has just started this behavior, and I am just wondering ...
In the evening, the kids are in bed, and I am relaxing on my lounge chair before bed, looking forward to some kitty lovin'.
Romeo comes running over to me, meowing the whole way, and I am thinking to myself, "oh, my sweet little boy has missed me today." He jumps on my lap, and procedes to give himself a full grooming session, (fortunatley he saves his "below-the-belt" business for the floor!") lol. Anyway, he will stay on my lap a good 15 minutes making himself gorgeous, then he jumps off my lap, and goes on the couch for a nap! I feel so used. *sniff*
All I am left with is a lap full of hair, and no kitty to cuddle!
Isn't this strange? anyone else have cats that do this?

I wouldn't feel to bad. At least he is loving on you.:)

My kitties will do that sometimes. However, mine will clean everywhere.;)

Good luck.

Smokey does that to my husband. Mark will sit in his chair after having dinner and Smokey will jump up and make like he is going to lay down on Mark, and then the next thing you know it is bath time. Once he is done he goes and lays down for the night.

Consider yourself lucky. My cats won't even come up on my lap.:(

Beau and Felicia usually clean themselves before they jump in my lap. :)

I suppose I should be grateful, Romeo will jump on my lap. Sammy won't, he wil give himself a full bathing session, after I have picked him up, or petted him, as if I have made him dirty!l

Don't worry about the cleaning after you love on him. My two do that all the time too. I think that it has something to do with scent, I am not really sure however.

Fifi does that! She will walk by me. I reach down my hand an she tries to avoid being petted. It's a game. If I manage to touch her she jumps her full length, shakes herself all over, trills, and then violently cleans the very spot I touched as if to say "OOO, Cooties!".

Such a joy!

Grover seems to be a loving little soul. She comes up to and sleeps on me, gives me licks when I ask her for sugars.

Of a night she just can't wait to go to bed, and then she waits to lay down with me with her little head on the pillow. Then she cuddles up to my neck and licks my neck and face. She does this for the longest. She ends up putting me to sleep doing this.

For some reason she has got very distrusting of my husband. She hides around corners and peers around at him. I ask him if he had kicked her or hurt her in someway. He says he hasn't, but something is very different. I just wonder if she knows he don't like cats.

Now Stubby will sometimes get in my lap. That is highly unusual, and I never hear him purr.

Hey, at least he's left you some fur to love!!!:D

Allen grooms himself in my bed, on the floor, on the sofa, on the table, but would never ever consider jumping into my lap. I might fall over if he did. Pouncer relies on Allen to do most of his grooming:D Sure, the little guy grooms himself, but he basically has Allen hoodwinked into doing a lot of it!
