I realy want a kelpie but not sure if it would go well with my other pets.
I have 8 small rabbits, a small dog and a cat (not to mention will never run away from a dog!)
Would it real depend on how it was bred if it woul get along with other animals?
I dont want one that comes from a long line of worng dogs coz i read that they sometimes herd other animals and small children. and with my little cousin, a working dog definatly wont have any right to be anywere neer her.
The only real thing i'm worried about is the safty of my cat, the dog would have no aces to the rabbits at all unless it somehow manages to get into a locked shed lol!
Could it kill my cat, just in fun? there is no way i could keep the seperate if i got the dog.
I would train it and do like agility an flyball with it to keep its energy level up. But would that b enough aswell as going for walks and a free run in a dog park?

There is a chance you may be able to get a kelpie with no herding background (Though I'm imagine you'd only be able to get one from a Backyard breeder), but either way, this dog will have tons of energy.

I'm sure it would be good with your pets if it's raised with them; herding is a modified prey drive and herding breeds should be socialized with small animals. However, I find that herding breeds listen well and that socialization is a short process with most of them. If your kelpie has no herding instinct, it will probably be the same affect, without herding the animals around all the time.

Any breed of dog can kill a cat; I'm fairly certain that kelpies are good with other animals if socialised properly, but you have to watch their behaviour towards eachother and make sure that everything is alright. If you get the dog as a puppy, it will be easier to have it understand that the cat was there first and is dominant over him/her.
