i have a question, if you have had a dog that is purebred but not registered for a while would it be possible to register it as an adult??
Tonya
01-19-2004, 04:46 PM
I would think you can as long as you have the appropriate paperwork about the parents. Ted was my only registered pet that I've ever had though, so I'm not sure.

Kai's not registered cause we've been having a bit of trouble with his breeder...he sold Kai as a purebred but didn't register the litter so we're going to call and complain to him until he gives in and pays for the late fees.
I think Kai would be Satelier's Back to Bed. :o
Prince Taylor- White Fox
My dad calls Prince 'White Fox'.:p

Lol No I meant Mickey's registered name is Mickey and our last name follows that. So if my last name is "Black" Mickey's registered name is Mickey Black. I just didn't want to post my real name. ;)

Jasper was registered by the breeder, Im not sure what hes registered by, we don't get the papers until he gets neutered:confused: Not sure why, but thats what the other papers say! Anyway hes getting neutered feb.16th!
And about the last name thing, lol theres a guy named Curtis Morgan who lives on my road, and he named his rottie Morgan
I dont like registrys but happy and blair are registerd through the breeder only, and only because they are from the same breeder. happy is simpley Weskys happy, and blair is weskys my boyfriend blair. we dont have the papers though and I dont care to have them, I dont even like the thought that happy is register'd. mistys full name is mistletoe mischief, and RIpleys full name is "Ripleys believe it or not we got another dog"(we were not planning on having another 2 dogs after Ripley lol) :p
doglover, jasper is on a spay/neuter contract to enforce it the breeder will not send the papers until he is neutered, because many people regard papers quite highly, personly my opinion is that they are just that papers, a peice of paper issued by some club(often AKC) that likes to deform dogs. lol but thats my opinion on them lol

I really don't know a lot about how registration works, but I believe you can have your vet sign a paper stating that the dog is purebred and get limited registration. I don't belive you can then show conformation, but maybe in certian agility classes, obedience and such?
Forgive me if I am completely wrong, I just thought I read that somewhere.

Are there any rules you have to follow? For example including the name of a sire.
Is the Kennel name part of the name?

Yes, usually. Molly's Kennel is "Tuitions" so that goes in front of "Mystic Molly". Daisy's breeder didn't have a kennel name.

We did the same thing with Muffy, our RB miniature schnauzer :) Registered names are fine, but since we never planned on showing her or anything I never really saw the point of thinking up a big long name. Muffy's her call name, it's her name!
Ruby obviously isn't registered since she's a mutt, but if she we're, she'd be Ruby :D
I like reading all the names, they're cute :)

In Canada, CKC will actually visit your house and confirm that your dog is purebred. I know that AKC only needs a picture, and I'm not sure about other registries.
My catahoula's registered name will be Cat's Cradle's Clear As Glass (Cat's Cradle is the kennel name). My GSD will be Shannon Lake Kennel's Black Ice (Shannon Lake Kennels is the kennel name). :)
Darlin's would be 'Belly Rubbin Babe' :D
Ozzy's AKC registration papers are on the way so I've got to think of one for him. How about....
'Serenitee's Ozzy to Isley'? (Isley was his father's name who died before Oz was born, and Ozzy is the puppy from the whole littler who reminds our breeder the most of Isley)
Or..
'Serenitee's Smarter Smooth'?
Hehe...tell me what you think or if you have any ideas. ;)

AKC will register a dog that appears to be purebred or resembles the Breed under the Indefinte listing program. You need to take 2 pictures and fill out the paper work. The dog must be spayed or neutered to be registered this way. Alot of people will register their dogs of unknown breeding this way in order to compete in field trails, obeidence, agility, flyball, ect., the only thing an ILP registered dog cannot show in is conformation.
my dogs names are;
Gannon's Sir Raleigh of Erin (Riley)
Gannon's Erin of Wildefire (Gannie)
Champion Chetas Black Pearl (PearlieMae)
Gannon's O'Charley of Erin (Charlie Gus)
Gannon is my last name and it is irish and the gaelic word for Ireland is Erin and that is how all my dogs are named except for pearlie mae as she came to me already named.

I don't quite understand, I am an American Kennel Club Canine Ambassador. I have never known how having a dog registered with papers makes them deform. Please explain.

Still doesn't make any sense. There are a lot of AKC conformation titled dogs that hold titles in working, field trials, obedience, etc .so where does it deform the dog.

Well hard core working border collie people believe that registering dogs ruins them as they lose working ability when you only breed for looks (as such registries encourage according to them). Usually nothing you can say will change their minds.

My cocker's AKC name is Shanna's Lacie Jae, and my RB basset's AKC name was Shanna's Mercedez Mae. I really didn't care what their registered names were, as they were both spayed.

The place where I got Keegan didn't have a Kennel name so her's is
Sweet Shaianne's Grace.
Sweet-- b/c her mom's name is Sweet Vidalia
Shaianne-- b/c I wanted to name her after Shaianne my RB greyhound my heart/spirit dog
Grace-- b/c I couldn't come up with anything that went with the first 2 names. I tried Spirit, and Trinity but didn't like any of them. So Grace is my Grandmother's first name and it went together beautifully. And My grandma loved Shaianne as much as Shaianne loved her and she loves Keegan as much Keegan loves her great Grandma!!! :)

I remember the "name game" we all "helped" you with, Staci, when you were deciding on a name for Keegan!!! :) How fun that was!!! And you made a lovely decision for all the right reasons.
Frankly, I don't know Murphy's registered name, but I do know that she is an AKC registered Lab, who Scott has had since she was a puppy.
Honey is "Helen's Sweet Honey" (her mother's name was Johnston's Brown Sugar
Lilly is "Given's Tiger Lilly" and I'm not even a Givens anymore!! :o But she's mine!!!! :)

I will only have dogs on the asssociate register (non pedigreed/papered)
Clovers registered name with the VCA (Victorian Canine Association) is Four Legged Clover FDCh, All associate registed dogs have to be spayed or neutered. and have to be registered to compete in Obedience, Agility (apart from ADAC agility i think), Tracking, Herding.
Clovers registered name with the AFA (Australian Flyball Association) is Clover FDCh (very simple)
And Elvis will be registered with both the VCA and the AFA, and most likly the herding club also. His name is going to be
Flying Elvis the King :D i dont see the point in pedigree Border Collies.
Cali i agree fully with what you said ;) go the working Borders :)

Registered names are in my siggy :)
Sequoia - Dutch Cheddar
Icee - FTH Silver Moon
Toby - FTH redmoonrisin
Being that they are racing greyhounds, they are registered with the National Greyhound Association (NGA).
What's neat about greyhounds is that you can trace each and every greyhound's pedigree back a couple hundred years... and for free by using http://www.greyhound-data.com

Star is registered AKC as Blue Moon Star (I didn't care for the Kennel name, so I didn't use it.)
Sherman is AKC Destiny's Raise the Bar. Before deciding on the call name Sherman, they called him "Bar Boy"
Good breeders breed for more than just "pretty dogs", they also strive to improve the breed, both in structure and temperment. A good breeder will only breed sound dogs with good movement, good disposition, and certified hips & eyes. Dogs that don't meet the breed standard are sold on spay/neuter contracts as pet quality, as they don't want a bunch of byb breeding dogs that have been culled out. It's one way to stop genetic disorders from proliferating. My Sherman is an example of this - his litter all developed juvenile cataracts, a genetic disorder often seen in huskies. He & his littermates will never be bred. His parents will not be bred to each other again, but I'm not sure if this also means they won't be bred to other dogs. His mom had several perfectly fine litters before. Registry is another way to track genetic records.
Blair is "Weskys My Boyfriend Blair" he is registered UKC and PSCA.
Electra is "KDs Storm Warnin4 Tollchester" and will be registered AKC and CKC
the rest of the dogs are not registered.

Kai's not able to be registered because of his turd of a breeder. :p I was going to register him as "Satelier's Fool in the Rain". I still use "Fool in the Rain" as his full name, just for kicks. :p
Kaedyn is also not able to be registered as he was adopted. His full name is "Dazed and Confused HIC" (yeah, I love Led Zeppelin haha :D)
I'm still trying to figure out a registered name for my Malinois pup. I'm thinking about _________ Keeva Van Berendhaus. The Mal will be coming from Dutch lines, so I thought it'd be fitting to stick with Dutch in the registered name. I'm still trying to find another "K" word to stick in front of "Keeva".
