My hubby and I went to a friends house (so my hubby could put up her new garage door opener... ahhh nice hubby!)
And she has 2 wolfdogs.
Harley is the black one, she is 3 and is 80% wolf
Phoenix is the other is 95% wolf and he is only 8 months old.
Harley is about the size of Buddy, about 80lbs.
Phoenix is 130lbs. He was HUGE!! When I got home to my pups, they looked small!!

They are beautiful! How did your friends get them? When I was in Texas, one of my friends had a white half wolf dog and it was huge! Wasn't very friendly either. I would love to have one if it behaved well.

She has had wolfdogs for years!
She gets them from a breeder about 2 hours away from us.
The breeder keeps in contact with EVERY wolfdog she adopts out. She knows what % wolf they all are, she breeds then carefuly, and she makes sure before anyone takes one, that they have has some experience with wolfdogs. Makes sure they all have safe fencing and all that stuff! So even though she does breed them, she is a responsible breeder!
I have always felt confused about wolfdogs. I have always loved wolves, but believed they belonged in the wild, that's where we all enjoy there beauty. But then when I got to play with them for the first time, I cried because I was actualy touching a wolf!!
I couldn't believe it! A real wolf I was petting and playing with!
It was such an emotional experience I just was overcome with emotions!!!!!

What a wonderful experience that must have been. I own a wolf hybrid (not close to 80% wolf). Not sure if I wan any more wolf in him than he has. I believe the belong in the wild. It seems though that your friend has her wolfdogs very well trained. Good for her!! Drake was a handful from the beginning and still has a high prey drive. He does great most of the time (lots of training and lots of money and lots of patience) but he still has his moments when his instincts take over:D

What stunning animals! :D I'm curious... do you know what breeds of dog the woman crosses with the wolf? I suck at percentages... seems to me if you bred a dog with a wolf you'd have a pup that was 50% of both.
But what do I know. :) LOL!
Either way, I'm SO envious of your experience. They are beautiful!

They're so beautiful and majestic - and it's nice that you can spend some time with them! I see lots of wolves up here, but only for a few seconds at a time. You can't get close enough to them to get a good look. I'd love to pet one of her wolf dogs!

Kimmy, if she breeds a dog with a wolf dog, then the offsprings would be more that 50% dog. Make sense? Keep breeding them like that and slowly, you are decreasing the dog in them. And if you bree wolfdog with wolfdog, and so on and so on....

oo I love wold hybrids! I met someone who had 2 femlae wolf hybreds, he kept then outside but by the choice of the dogs not him. very freindly girls they were! well socialized, well cared for etc.. when one was sick he made her stay inside until she was better but she hated it, all she wanted was to be back outside. I was so glad to meet somene with wolf hybrids who cared about the, someone who had outdoor dogs ny the dogs choice, well socialized, it was great to see after always hearing the wold hybrids are horrable etc.. :p

Unfortunately, there are lots of them! Wolfdogs are illegal in many places as they are classified as wild animals, high content wolf-hybrids in particular. There's a huge movement among malamute and husky breeders (and others) to ban the breeding of wolf dogs.
I do own a wolf hybrid. Kayleigh is a low content hybrid. I didn't know that when I adopted her. I got her from a shelter, not a breeder. I love Kayleigh to bits and I wouldn't get rid of her for anything but NEVER again will I own a wolf-dog. Kayleigh is unpredictable--never know when the wolf part of her brain will kick in, she is same sex aggressive, her prey drive is uncontrollable, she is almost impossible to confine. She is so (^#)&^&()$ smart that she can open the clasp on her chain, she can climb fences! But she's also affectionate, protective and a heck of puller in the sled team!
