Well, first off, hi! I am new to this site. I just happened upon it the other day, checked it out and decided to join. I live in East Tennessee and I am a Veterinary Technician/Assistant at a local animal hospital and have there off/on for several years now. I just thought i'd tell you all about this case that came in about a month ago.
We had this dog brought in that had apparently been hit by a car and neglected for quite some time. By looking at the wounds, we guessed the poor girl had been hobbling around for about 10 days to 2 weeks after being hit by a car. Her rear right leg was completely destroyed with hardly any flesh left on it. We could all see just about every bone in her leg. The people that brought her in wanted her euthanized b/c of the cost of the amputation of the leg, and tail (it was pretty bad also), and the hospitilization and rehabilitation fees. We convinced the doctor to let us call a local rescue group, H.A.N.D., to see if they would cover "Goldie's" charges. Sure enough, they agreed and we started the recovery of this poor dog. After a few days of getting "Goldie" back to health (she is a Golden Retriever/sheltie mix and only weighed 15lbs when we first got her), we amputated her leg and most of her tail. She recovered beautifully and was walking in no time. Her huge fear of other animals quickly diminished, as she was around them 24-7 either at the clinic, or at my house for rehab. All in all, "Goldie's" doing great. She now is slowly but surely gaining weight back (she's almost 25lbs!!!) and doing awesome!!! Soon i'll post some before and after pics (and pics of the surgery) to show ya'll this sweet dog!!!
P.S. this pic is me with some of my animals. :)
