I am working on my (very poor) website and I have designed a couple of pages imported from excel.
The idea is you can choose options from drop down cells and it will calculate the cost of buying a cat and the other page will calculate the yearly cost of basic cat costs. (Though the costs are just guess work at the moment.)
Steve says that noone will have excel installed on their computers. I thought I would ask ?

I have excel on my computer. I also work in excel on my job. I'm not an expert by any means but I might be able to help. If not then I will be able to get answers for you at work.
So there Steve!!:D :D http://petoftheday.com/talk/images/our_smilies/biggrin.gif

Excel is a spreadsheet program and you can do calculations, etc. If anyone has the Office products, like Office XP or Office 2000 then they will likely have Excel.
Office comes with Word, Excel, Powerpoint (for presentations), and Access (for Database).
Excel is good for creating your own budgets. For example Jen, you could list all your kitty's names down the left-hand side and across the top you could put the days of the week. As each day goes by you could write in the amount of food that each cat eats each day. At the end you could calculate who eats the most food.
:D :D :D
PIF: I think it's not a bad idea because most computers have some kind of spreadsheet program that may be able to read in Excel files.

Who does school assignment or work from home will have Excel because with most Office installs, people just install everything even if they don't use it becuase they figure that they may need it some day!

Hmmm, when I got my computer it came with Windows XP and had a 'dumbed down' version of Word and a spreadsheet program that drove me crazy. I finally broke down and bought the Office suite so I could use programs I'm used to, with the bells and whistles I like... So I finally have Excel, Word, etc.
Good luck, sounds like a neat program you are planning.

I have it on my computer, but never use it...:o
Well honestly there's a lot of stuff on my computer that I never use...either because I don't know what it's good for, or I've used once and decided it's unnessecary...but I always think, maybe there's some kind of very important stuff with those programmes and as soon I delete something everything would break down...
Anyway, you've written about your new website...hey, I am looking forward to seeing it...hurry up, please!!!
;) :) :D

I also have it installed, but barely use it at home. But I had to use it a lot at work.

I have it, and use it for various 'accounting' issues at work.
So there, Steve :D
For that blunder, I think Jen deserves another cat. You can name it Excel!:p :D

I have Excel on my computer too (with Office 2000 Premium). It's a very good program, but I hardly use it - hate anything to do with accounting! But I used it for making a list of "who has a vacation when" in my previous work. Otherwise, I use it for working out exchange rates when we travel. Like to have a list handy for the appropiate currency.
You can even use it to make a simple database, but I definately prefer Access or Filemaker Pro for that!
Amoore, it doesn't matter whether you have Windows this or that, you can still use it. ;)

Microsoft also has a free "Excel Viewer" program that you can download. It will allow people that don't have Excel to Excel files.

I have excel both at home and at work. I really only use it at work to track a few things.
I have never used it in conjunction with web pages, but I know that it can be done. Good luck with that, and I hope that the class will teach you what you need.:)

We have it at home, as well as both our workplaces. I use it all the time. :)
I believe Excel is a standard part of Windows when you purchase a computer. :)

When I purchased my first PC in 1983, Lotus 1-2-3 was the spreadsheet of choice. Now, WordPerfect is my favorite word processing program, but the companion QuatroPro, isn't my favorite spread sheet program. Excel is.

I have Excel on my computer, but only so I can open spreadsheet files if I need to. I find the program so confusing it makes me cry :o And I've even taken a computer course that included excel! I guess it didn't work :p
