My friend was getting married and the grooms cake was left unattended for a brief period of time. When there is a wedding, everyone else is so focuses on other things and not the whereabouts of the cat. When my friend went to get the cake to take to the reception hall, there was Gizmo (a Maine Coon) sitting on the grooms cake. Giz proceeded to lay on the cake from the sitting position. His whiskers had remenants of icing.

My Sassafras, "Sassy", once sat in an unguarded serving of creamed corn. When he got up his poofy plume of a tail wasn't nearly so poofy! ;-)
Sassy died in February, but your post made me smile to think of his funny, loving, sweet behavior. Thanks for inspiring happy memories!

The funniest thing my cat has ever sat on?
My head!!!
In attempting to give my very first cat
(Sugar, Rainbow Bridge) a bath for the first time - he jumped on my head.
After realizing that he was alright, and I was alright - I laughed all day about it.

Our cat Farquhar (Farqie)liked to sit in the jam kettle on the stove. I would keep it on the back burner (burner was NOT lit!) during jam-making season, as it was difficult for me to get it on and off the top shelf of the pantry where I store it. One day I went in to the kitchen for a drink, and heard this noise from the stove, and Farqie's head popped up over the rim of the kettle, as he sat up and yawned at me.
We also had a tote bag made of rag rug material, and he loved that bag. He would try to sit on it, even when there were hard lumpy things in it. If he was being naughty, I would pick him up, and put him on that bag, and he would just settle right down and take a nap.

Another favorite memory, of Perspicacity (Cassy) this time. I'm not sure how he does it either ...
Several times I've walked by one of my 'hip high' plastic trash cans and absently noticed that suddenly it now has gray tufted ears. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif Triple take time, and lo and behold, Cassy is sitting inside. I've no idea how he gets in there without knocking it over!

Once I searched high & low all over the house for my large pair of kitchen scissors....
It wasn't until Tebaldi got up off the couch to have dinner that I realized she had been sleeping on top of them. I never cease to be amazed at the uncomfortable things that cats will happily sit on!

My cat LOVES alum. foil! I discovered this once when I used it to cover a piece of furniture that a cat had previously had an "accident" on. A couple different cat advice books said to clean it then cover with foil to keep the cats off, because cats are suposed to hate the feel and sound of it. Well, one of my cats would not go anyway near it, but the other we would find sleeping on it during the night. Then after a day or two, he started playing in it. He was jumping on it, then spinning around & pouncing, etc.
