, you can now see a cathouse !!!
http://www.piftails.com/images/cathouse.jpg
I bought this with some of my christmas money and filled it with straw (As suggested on Alley cat website). It is not filled to the brim but as you can tell by the straw on the floor someone has been in :D
It wasn't any of my cats, as they have been locked in to be safe from the New Eves fireworks.
But we have been away so we haven't seen if it was Big Daddy (i.e. the massive intact black & white cat I have been spotting around recently)
I have a big cement slab behind our shed and I plan to set this into the ground so the cathouse is not sat straight on the grass.
Hopefully Big Daddy will use the shelter. I actually saw him trying to sleep on the frosty ground next to our hedge two days ago and my heart melted.
Well, at least he has a shelter if he needs it.

Just hang out the vacancy sign and I am sure the cold and tired will gladly use this fine shelter. :)

What a great cat shelter. What an unselfish thing you did by taking some of your Christmas money to help shelter the cats from the cold. Bless you.

Thanks for the kind words. :D
I do hope Big Daddy finds/uses the shelter.
Even if Big Daddy never uses the shelter, at least it is there just in case someone else does need it.

I love it! What a neat cathouse for the outside kitties. I hope Big Daddy is snuggly warm in it (or any other weary travelers).
Such a very nice thing for you to do!:)

What great thing to do.:)
I am happy to hear that is being used too. Hopefully it is Dig Daddy.
Well, whomever it is, the cathouse was a very nice thing.

That's a great cathouse - and already in use. :D I'm so glad you put it there. :)
It's a very good idea to put the cement under it so the wood won't rot. Perhaps you can also give it a layer of impregnate.
We built 2 houses for our stray cats some years back and they moved in immediately and soon decided on which of them was theirs. :D
Please let us know if you see who has moved in.

Jenny, how does it work with the cathouse meanwhile?! Any more Big Daddy sightings or hints that he uses his shelter?!
I hope so much that he now stays around and doesn't wander too much (although unneutered males wander vast distances daily)...I'll keep my fingers crossed for a happy ending!!!

I love it!! What a wonderful shelter. I really hope it's big Daddy who is using it. All you need now is a webcam ... :D

Some kitty used the shelter for a couple of icey frosty nights when I first put it out but the last few nights have been mild and warm and noone has used the shelter.
It doesn't matter if it is used or not, when the nights get cold, it is there for a kitty (Big Daddy ?) in need. :D

how is it going- any signs that it's being used by a cat or cats? If not, try putting fresh or strong (a good brand) of catnip inside to lure the leery...
I'll never forget when I accompanied my friend to a wooded area behind the Christmas Tree Shop on Rt 1 (a dept. store) to put in a shelter. She put it near where the feeder puts down food. As far as anyone knows there is only one cat left but then sometimes people dump when they see a feeder so is good to keep eyes open for new ones. but anyway, she made a great styrofoam shelter from a cooler that she had sealed shut (the lid) with duct tape and cut a hole just big enough for a cat to get in and filled with hay. That thing was warm! You could put your hand in it and feel the heat without any body heat being added.
A week later, it was gone. Some employee at the store who hates the cats dumped it.
Hope you aren't running into any obstacles! let us know!
