I don't know anything about goats. I do know a lot about sheep though. I do know though, that pigmy goats LOVE alfalfa. So BE SURE to get them some of that. They need something to keep them entertained so, make them some steps to run up and down on. Tie a sugar cube or 4 to a string up high where they can jump for it. Maybe even make them a little maze to get to their alfalfa. I would like that if I was a goat. Just imagine yourself as a goat. Think of things that you would like.:)
I will be back. I am going to go find you some websites on pigmy goats.:D

Anyhow, I am glad that you like the advice. The sugarcube thing was something that we use for the horses. They love it.

I have 3 goats and they are a handfull at times but still worth it. One think you should remember Goats will eat forever, so don't let them fool you into thinking they are still hunger. They could eat you out of house and home if you not carefull.
Just make sure you have a salt block for them, lots of room to eat all the grass they want, some feed, lots of water and some place they can rub thier horns.
Expect a lot of noise when they want something and get use to the smell. Goats hate water so baths are not a easy thing to do.
They also have a bad habit of peeing on them selfs so that doesn't help the smell any.
Now this might sound like a odd thing to say, but don't let them get to attached to you. I had to bottle feed on of mine after his mother passed and he is so attached to me he cries for me and as soon as he see me he is all over me and I end up getting remed by a horn. Goats can be great pets but when they bond to a person it 10 times more then the average pet. At least thats how it works with my guys.
Two of my guys......

No No, never let your dogs play with the goats, it's in most dogs natural instince to kill a goat and it's a chance not worth taking.
I do have one dog that is good with my goats but even with that I still don't trust him.
Not all dogs will try to hurt your goats but honestly it not worth the risk to find out.

Oh I forgot something don't forget to worm them every once in awhile. At least twice a year.
And again don't forget they will eat anything, even the side of your house if they can, so if you have any plants you want to keep in one piece, keep the goats away. :D
Also if you have anything high they can climb on they love that, they play king of the hill. Our have a Little tikes climping toy that they just love to play on.
As teats they love around the yard, we give them suger cane stocks and when we trim our oak tree they love it, we give they the branches with leaves. They go crazy over the oak leaves.

I replyed to your post in dog general?.
I have two golden gurnesys castrated billys.
They are so much fun to own.
They do eat anything (me included) so well made shelter is needed (they do love shelter),
there hooves need trimming around every 3 weeks (depending on the ground there on, (Its easy to do yourself, just get them used to being tied up and handled), their hooves and similar to humans, as not to cut to short, if they bleed purple spay solves that.
I two bottle feed my two, however they didnt cry for me as they had each other.
I feed mine cool mix (its horse feed) in the summer as they have lots of lush grass, any scraps like crarrot/potato peel (any veggie really) mine love the odd tea bad,lol
in the winter they get goat mix (non expensive) lots of hay and staw, they hate cold water.
I never teatherd mine as thay hated it, so i had collors (dog) with tags on as they did run off time to time, (as they say the grass is greener on the other side)
pm me for any info.
as for names one was billy (for obvious reasons) and the other was leo, i taught them to come when called, they lived with 5 horses no probs (they were part of the herd, they ate together, ran together played together, they were like mini ponys, lol)
as for the dog thing, it depends on the dog, Rio learned the hard way and stered clear after that, but if your not sure dont risk it

Welcome to Pet Talk! :)
Probably about 5 years ago I used to volunteer at a petting zoo. I worked mostly with bottle feeding baby goats. I fell in love with goats. My favorite breed is Oberhaslis, but I adore Pygmies as well. Meh... I love all goats in general :o I have never owned a goat of my own (I just don't have the right type of yard).
Since I've never *owned* a goat of my own I probably can't give you too much advise. However, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do as much research as you can before you bring those goats into your home. It's not a smart idea to buy an animal (especially an animal that takes so much work - like a goat) with no previous knowledge about it. Good luck to you! Goats are wonderful animals. So sweet, hilarious personalities... they're great. Please post photos of your pygmies when they come home! :D

I can't belive I forgot about trimming their hooves, gald you didn't. Bad me. :D
How do you luck out not getting your bottle feed baby to not cry for you, mine drove me nuts at times. As soon as he see me the crying would start. Even now 2 years late, he still calls for me, even with the other 2 around. I always seem to get the needy pets. ;) ;) :D

Well I kept them I my field behind the house, as soon as they saw me walking up with the bottle thats when they cryed, lol, I spent allot of time around the yard so I guess they got the message that i wasnt going to feed them everytime.lol.
I think bottle feeding/feeding in general makes them tamer.
