I need some advice on what to do about getting Lily done ..

Last time we got Toby done they suggested we do bloodwork, so we did. They came back saying he had low white cell count and that we had to pay 50 bucks to get a FIV test. Did another blood test and everything was 'fine'. I'm second thoughts on getting the pre blood work done with Lily. Alyson, correct me if I'm wrong, but I was sure she was already tested for FIV and she is perfectly healthy. I know that the same situation that happened with Toby happened to HaleyRosie's Mandy too .. it makes me susupicious that they are just putting us through all the worries and horrible stress to make a few extra bucks.

I've had a cat and dog done in the past without the pre-bloodwork .. I'm skeptical on if this procedure is really necessary or not.

Advice! BTW, she has her appointment on the 30th

Thanks!

Johanna

Are you referring to the optional blood work before the spay/neuter operation?

If yes, then I personally would always get the blood work before the surgery. It tests the kidney and liver functions before giving the anesthesia. If they aren't working well, then anesthesia may be more of a risk.

Also, because there are many drug options available, the blood work will also help determine the best one to use for that specific animal.

I don't think they do some extra bloodwork here -but I notice that vets take it easier here anyway -which may be an advantage or not.

I wish Lily all the best. I think Aly will have tested her purrfectly.

I my opinion, the pre blood work is important for the older cat. Younger cats I usually do not have it done unless there is reason to think the cat is sickly. Just MY opinion.

Johanna,

Even after my experience when I got Mandy spayed I would still go through with the bloodwork. Like Russian Blue said it tests many things and I would want to make sure she is getting the right type of care.
