I am not against breeding, I just have a few questions
1. is she CERFed? OFAed? if you dont know what they are then I suggest breeding will be an extremly bad idea.
2. how old is she? if its her first heat forget it. never breed until they are at LEAST 2 years old.
3. why do you want to breed blue bell?
4. will she somehow improve the breed?
5.does she show outstanding working ability?
6.has she ever been worked?
7.is she a show aussie or real aussie?
8. do you know whats involved in breeding?
9. what do you plan to do with the pups?
10. do you have homes lined up?
11. are you prepared to spend every waking minut with the pups? are you prepared to be staying up all night and bottle feeding if anything should happen and the pups need hand fed?

According to your profile, you're 12. You're WAY too young to be breeding (even if you did get her checked and all). Firstly, your parents say you're not allowed to have another dog. RESPECT THAT. Don't be a rebel and breed your dog because your parents say you can't have ONE other dog. That would only show them how irresponsible you are and may make them question whether or not you can handle blue belle alone. Secondly, we're talking about a litter of puppies. NOT just one other dog. These are breathing, living things. Are you prepared to stay up all night to make sure your girl makes it? Are you prepared to bring your dog to the vet's immediately if something happens to her? It's very risky and you can end up losing her. What will you do if you don't find homes for all pups? What if the pups' future owners come back to you and complain that they have bad eyes, hips or any other genetic problem. Will you be ready to offer them back their money and take back and find another home for the dog? This isn't just a thing that leaves you the moment the pups leave you. You're responsible for the pups until the day they pass. I'm sorry if this comes off as rude but I'm all for rescue and against breeding if you're not doing the right tests and not breeding with great breed representatives.

Good questions!!!! :) What about:
1) Can you afford the vet bills if something may happen to the bitch, i.e birth complications?
2) Can you afford the vet bills to have all of the puppies vaccinations and other shots?
Those count too, vet bills cost a lot of $$!! :(

In my own opinion, breeding is something you do to better the breed, and it should be done with a program. How many other aussies do you have? Are they ALL tested? Aussies are prone to dysplasia, eye problems, ear problems...etc. Have you done all the nessecary and even unessecary testing? Are they certified? Are they pedigreed? Registered? Do atleast some of them fit a standard? Are atleast some of them working quality? Are they participants of any sports? Are you willing to risk her life? Are you willing to give her an emergency C-section that might kill her or the pups? Do you have an emergency vet? What kind of diet are they on? Are their temperments good?
Considering I'm sure that you only have one dog...I guess the answers to these questions won't be answered very well.

Here is something that I posted on another thread some time ago.
Not spaying a dog before her first heat increases the likelihood of cancer, and letting your dog breed GREATLY increases her risk of cancer. As for weight, it will change absolutely nothing except the fact that your dog will be alot fatter for the months that it's pregnant, and about a month or two afterwards.
~An estimated eight to ten million dogs are euthanized in shelters each year. Millions are abandoned, only to suffer from illness or injury before dying. That's about one every 4 seconds.
~Most of the dogs in shelters are from backyard breeders.
~Over 56% of dogs and puppies entering shelters are killed. (Most of these dogs and puppies go to "good" homes).
~It costs U.S. taxpayers an estimated $2 billion each year to round up, house, kill, and dispose of homeless animals (So you may be adding to the taxes by breeding).
~For every human, there are about ten dogs. There are about 6 billion people in this world. Should every person own ten dogs?
~As many as 25% of dogs entering shelters each year are purebreds.
~Every unspayed female pet potentially contributes to the problem.
~A female spayed AFTER sexual maturity has a 70% chance of developing mammary cancer. By having a litter of puppies, her chaces of cancer are increased greatly by even more.
~Contrary to popular myths, there are absolutely NO benefits, medical or otherwise, in letting your female dog have even one heat cycle or litter before she is spayed.
~Your spayed female will be healthier. She will avoid the risks of pregnancy and uterine infections, and she will be far less likely to develop mammary and uterine cancer in life.
~A dog that isn't spayed before sexual maturity has a very good chance of developing the life-threatening uterine infection. Risk greatly increased after having puppies.
A reputable breeder:
Breeds ONLY for the improvement of the breed, and NO other reason.
Has pedigreed dogs with papers, and the puppies should be registered.
Has more than one breeding pair.
Doesn't breed more than two breeds (Infact two is pushing it if you ask me).
Makes sure their dogs are health certified (hips, elbows, eyes, etc.).
Breeds purebred dogs.
Discontinues any line that shows any sign of illness.
Keeps their dog competitive in shows such as conformation, agility, diving, flyball etc.
Breeds on demand and/or has the puppies reserved before he/she breeds.
Takes the time that is nesecarry to be sure that his/her dogs match up personality-wise before breeding.
Has their dogs checked atleast twice a year.
Makes sure that their dogs are socialized with other dogs and people.
Are responsible owners as well as breeders (takes dogs for walks, keeps them on a healthy diet etc).
Hi Momo.
Do not breed Blue Belle. She is too young. :( Breeding her could severley damage her health.
If you absolutley, positivley, must breed her, then wait two or three years, and do NOT breed her with another merle. The pups will come out blind, deaf, albino or all three.

I highly doubt they'd be albino hehe. ;) Albinism in dogs is extremely rare. You can get partial albinism fairly commonly, but not albinism. Most likely she'd get mainly homozygous merles.
Albino/White..whatever. :p

Can you post a link to a site that states that? I've read so many that have different statistics as to the percentage a dog is at risk. I'm always interested in reading more.
Can you explain this to me? More responsible breeders don't have several pairs of dogs that they breed together. In fact if they own a stud dog, they rarely use him on their bitches, instead going to someone else to try and bring different blood lines to their dogs. Of course I may have read what you wrote the wrong way :)

I don't have a link for that statistic.
I mean that they shouldn't be breeding the same pair again and again. They should have more than one female and one male. They need to create a winder range of genes (I was considering some shiloh breeders in BC, but changed my mind when I found out that they only have three dogs and don't breed their female with dogs from other breeders, only their two males).
A regular vet check, to make sure that everything is in tip top shape. If not twice a year, atleast once would be good. I'm not even a breeder, and my dog will be checked twice a year if not more. ;)

He checks the heartbeat and the breathing and eyes and ears and feels the body for anything odd, etc. Just what a doctor does for a human checkup. ;) I know this is something you can obviously do yourself, but it's great to have a more professional opinion rather than just doing everyhting yourself.

What kind of show dog? You can't show her in conformation if you spay her. I'd reccomend agility, flyball, herding, flying disc, or obedience. Aussies are great at those. ;)

Well they do have an altered conformation class for those who want to do it for fun. I'm not sure how they work or how popular they are. Also since she is young she may want to get into Jr. Handling, which is all about learning how to show a dog properly, and for that the dog doesn't have to be intact.
But you're also right in that aussies are great at all the other sports you mentioned!! Lots of fun to be had by all!!

I went for many job shadows at the local vets and I asked them that very same question, why is the percentage so high if you dont spay your dog befor its first heat?? the vet stated that the dog will be 70% more likely to get cancer later in life.. What better proof, then a vet telling me??

That's nice that the vet said that, but I'd still like some proof in the form of statistics. Vets are still people, and people all have their own opinions. You can ask ten different vets and get ten different answers. :)

I think some hurt feelings are better than homeless puppies. But I agree the spelling correction was unnessecary, and in my opinion, just rude. Having friends with dyslexia, illiteracy, and friends who have just plain battled reading and spelling their whole lives, I can definatly sympathize and empathize.

Spelling problems can follow somone around and torment them. Even when someone tries to help, their "jokes" don't help at all. Suggesting not to breed a dog is not the same as "joking" about a chronic problem. My best friend failed english 10 last year because she can't read or spell well, and she would be very hurt by what some might call a "joke" that "isn't meant to hurt."

LOL. I still don't see how telling her "bread is something you bake, no what a dog does" is rude.
Calling my 'joke' (which honestly, wasn't meant to harm anyone or cause you to get a fuss about it) stupid could follow me around and torment me as well. Will it? Probably not. But, It was much more uncalled for than correcting someone's spelling.

I've never met a teacher that would use a "correction" so bluntly. When I was 12, my teacher would have explained to me the difference between bread and bred and then showed me some examples. But that would be in class. On an internet forum, what's the point? You KNEW what she meant, is what I'm saying. You didn't need an affirmation. First, you sit here and call me rude, and things I say stupid -- now you're being rude yourself. No one ever said I hate you, and you should not make that assumption.

YEAH, I AM being rude, and I'm doing it on purpose because I'm tired of the constant attitude.
EDIT: Sorry if I'm being terrible, I'm just tired of hearing people complain. I apologize if I sound mean.

Yeah... And it really makes sense to do so on this thread, when it has nothing to do with and/or about me.
Any farther rudeness, please reply with PM. Thanks.
Edit: Who's complaining, and what is there to complain about?
