I now declare the games of the 31st Thursdays to begin!!!!
I want to rock and roll all night and party every day!!
DOTD SUGGESTION BOX is empty and awaiting.
slick

I think we should be creative this time and make up our own DOTD.
How about a Mall Hopper??? Perhaps something with Grenadine or Creme De Menthe to celebrate the season colours.
Is it too soon to have a Santa??

But we will later!

I'm over my -tini phase and need a new DOTD! How about a nice glass of Champagne while I think! The brain is very slow this morning, so how about TWO glasses while I think ;)
This woman has been hopping too many malls ...

If we can't come up with Mall Hopper ingredients, how about this.
Elf Tea
Ingredients:
1 oz. Peppermint Liqueur
3 oz. Iced Tea
1/2 Lemon
Sugar (To taste)
Mix all the ingredients and squeeze lemon over the top.

how does this sound - a "Pointsettia"
Champagne, 1/4 oz. Triple Sec, Splash of Cranberry Juice
Combine in Champagne glass, Garnish with a twist
I'll be willing to try it to make sure that it's good enough for the bar.;)
ok-ok - holiday joke from Jay Leno
...
The Supreme Court has ruled that they cannot have a nativity scene in Washington, D.C. This wasn't for any religious reasons. They couldn't find three wise men and a virgin.

Well, there's something to be said for Quality Control :D :D
That Poinsettia sounds better than Elf Tea. Let me know if it tastes OK. I'm at the end of my work day now and could use a little "pick-me-up".
Pointsettia, sounds good to me,
and it's healthy too, because it has real cranberry's in it. :)
Since this is Rock thursday, should we be dressing up
in the 50's/60's style? Should I bring my Elvis and Beatle
LP's among other oldies but goodies Rocky N roll stuff!
P.S. the joke was cute.

Beatles, by all means!
"Living is easy with eyes closed...misunderstanding all you see...I think and know of me...oh yes, but it's all wrong...it doesn't matter much to me...
"No one I think is in my tree...I mean it must be high or low...I mean you can't, you know, tune in but it's all right...that is, I think I disagree..."
I should have a Strawberry Daiquiri after flashing on that!

Mmmmmm....both the Elf Tea and the Poinsettia sound wonderful, but I'd like my Elf Tea warm, it's chilly here tonight! :)
Been awhile since I've been to a Thursday, so I'm ready - bring it on! What are we celebrating this week?:D

So anything on the rocks is on the house this week???

Hi everyone. I was watching my morning news and they were talking about the "hottest" toys this year. The winner was some Elmo doll that did the Hokey Pokey. WE ARE TRENDSETTERS!!!
Weren't we doing the Hokey Pokey here at Thursdays about a month ago?

Good morning people! I'm glad we're starting early. I'll have a poinsettia. That sounds just like the thing to start today.
I can remember the first Beatles album I had. Yikes! It was their first. Does that date me?
Make that two drinks - mabe if I blur the edges I won't look so old in the mirror!?!

Has anyone seen the funny ad on VH1 Classic? Kid Rock sitting on chimney? Its too funny!:D
I loved the Beatles too! Black Bird is the song of theirs that I like best.:)

Suuuuuup!!!!
It's only 6:45am here on the West Coast and a cloudy, crisp day with rain starting in the afternoon and falling for the next 2 days.
No Hokey Pokey for me this week. I think I'll bring my "Hard Days Night" LP to the party. Richard you may want to think about getting a beatle haircut for the occasion. Oh yea, and those pointy shoes :D :D :D
I've also got some oldies Elton John (Crocodile Rock) for your enjoyment. And speaking about crocodiles, Crocodile Dundee was on my local TV station last night. **sigh** Come to Momma!!!
Robin: I've tried that before....doesn't work. You wake up in the morning and still look the same, but had fun experimenting.
Good Morning Tray, Mahayana, Cincy's Mom, Amoore, Gini. Debbie, start posting, we want to see 5000 before the end of the day. Laurie nice to have you join us especially after the sad news about Cheeks. Sit down and let me buy you a drink.
Rock On everyone!!

Ok, here's one more. :D I don't know if I'll hit it by the end of the day though. I post and post and post and it goes up 5 - a measly 5! And I've got union reports to do today so I won't be able to be as active as I'd like, but oh wait! I think I have some T & P pics to post....if I get time to resize them and get them on imagestation that is.
I've got to have a clear head for those union reports today, so I think I'll stick with my basic morning Coke for now - in a 32 oz cup with ice and a straw please - just like McDonalds. :D
Oh, and if I can rant for a minute.... The last week in December my boss is going on vacation. That's 3 weeks from now and he's already started on his usual "the place is going to fall to pieces while I'm gone" rampage. Aggrivates the h**l out of me when he does this, and I can't believe he's starting so early this time.   So be ready, once those union reports are done I'll be ready for something a lot stronger than some old coke! ;)

I think that Eddie must still be sleeping on top of Richard - he's no where to be seen.
Lets get this party rolling.
T&P - 30 to go to #5000 - you can do it. One warm elf tea coming up.
amoore- one spanish coffee - done.
robinh - 2 pointettias - done. I know I look a lot younger if I just remove my glasses - everything is nice and blurry that way.
lb - sigh - its tough being a trendsetter isn't it.
mayahana - one strawberry (fields) daiquiri - done.
Tell you what, I'll just make a pitcher of pointsettias for who ever else wants one.
Tubby & Peanut's Mom
12-04-2003, 10:32 AM
And here's a quickie to counteract my rant.
A man walks into a bar with a slab of asphalt under his arm and says: "A beer please, and one for the road."
 :D
ok, go ahead with the groans. :D
slick
12-04-2003, 12:33 PM
Oh Debbie, that's such a groaner........but at least you posted one more :D :D Don't worry, we have a couple of bosses around here like that, but I just give them what they want to hear...."whatever will we do without you????" then walk away smirking :D
Catland: you're such a good bartender, that Richard's got competition. Are those Poinsettias ready yet?? I'll have it tall and strong. I have to start building up for my Mall Hopping this weekend. Gotta get all those gifts bought and wrapped.
PS: I think Richard is lurking and just seeing how we manage without him.

12-04-2003, 12:45 PM
Debbie that was funny! Thanks!
Catland: that is just the way I like my spanish coffee!
Slick, I think the party has started!:D

mo-mo - pep tea for you and nip tea for the kitties.
Slick - didn't I make you a Pointesettia? (next time I'll have to think of a drink that's easier to spell, we should have gone with the elf tea afterall) - I thought it was around here somewhere.
T&P - 25 posts to go!!!! Let us know when you are done with those reports. Perhaps by then Richard will have joined us and he can come up with something extra strong to sooth your nerves.

ok - some Christmas humor (and it mentions beer so it's a good story for Thursday's)
As we all know, it takes 1 calorie to heat 1 gram of water 1 degree centigrade.
Translated into meaningful terms, this means that if you eat a very cold dessert this Christmas (generally consisting of water in large part), the natural processes which raise the consumed dessert to body temperature during the digestive cycle literally sucks the calories out of the only available source: your body fat.
For example, a dessert served and eaten at near 0 degrees C (32.2 deg. F) will in a short time be raised to the normal body temperature of 37 degrees C (98.6 deg. F). For each gram of dessert eaten, that process takes approximately 37 calories as stated above. The average dessert portion is 6 oz, or 168 grams. Therefore, by operation of thermodynamic law, 6,216 calories (1 cal/gm/deg. x 37 deg. x 168 gms) are extracted from body fat as the dessert's temperature is normalized. Allowing for the 1,200 latent calories in the dessert, the net calorie loss is approximately 5,000 calories.
Obviously, the more cold dessert you eat on Christmas Day, the better off you are and the faster you will lose weight, if that is your goal.
This process works equally well when drinking very cold beer in frosted glasses during the college bowl system.
Each ounce of beer contains 16 latent calories, but extracts 1,036 calories (6,216 cal. per 6 oz. portion) in the temperature normalizing process. Thus, the net calorie loss per ounce of beer is 1,020 calories. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to calculate that 12,240 calories (12 oz. x 1,020 cal./oz.) are extracted from the body in the process of drinking a can of beer.
Frozen desserts, e.g., ice cream, are even more beneficial, since it takes 83 cal./gm to melt them (i.e., raise them to 0 deg. C) and an additional 37 cal./gm to further raise them to body temperature. The results here are really remarkable, and it beats running/jogging hands down.
Unfortunately, for those who eat pizza as an excuse to drink beer, pizza (loaded with latent calories and served above body temperature) induces an opposite effect. But, thankfully, as the astute reader should have already reasoned, the obvious solution is to drink a lot of beer with pizza and follow up immediately with large bowls of ice cream.

Sorry Catland, I guess I just meant that since the bar is getting more and more crowded that we need a 2nd bartender. At least that's what my head was thinking but the communication didn't get down to my typing fingers.

Hi Kiia. Everyone's welcome at Dick's Place. Come on in and make yourself comforable. Catland, we need a drink over here, please and thank you.
Kiia, Catland isn't our usual bartender but she does a "bang up" job when Richard is not here. If you've been lurking you've probably noticed that we have a lot of fun here and each week is a different theme. Hey, I have a solution for this problem. I think EVERYONE should go up to him and tell him that the place WILL fall apart while he is gone. AND, that everyone thinks he should just cancel his vacation week so that this doesn't happen.
THEN see what he has to say!!:D :D
Is this Thursday? OMG, IT IS THURSDAY! My workweek has been pretty busy.
Hmmm, those poinsettia drinks sound good - and look how relaxed Slick looks over there in the corner (under the chair).
Richard just thinks he is on vacation - he can't stand it to be away from all of us....just you watch him walk in the door any minute now!

Who's in charge of the kitchen this week? All this alcohol and not a mention of food except the cold desserts....mmm.....love that ice cream cake with the holiday theme to it. Here Slick, you want some of this while your burger is cooking? Actually, a burger sounds yummy right about now. ;) :D
(I should really start a new post for this, but that's cheating, isn't it?) Gini, the sad part about doing that would be that he would probably agree with everybody and cancel his vacation! It's happened in the past. He really doesn't take enough vacations - complains that I get more vacation than him, but I told him that's because I take my vacation, unlike him. Anyway, he's pretty much gone for the day, so I'm free!!!!

That Mahayana is out there dancing with all my friends! As long as he saves the last dance for me!!
I remember one time he was dancing with my friends from work at a bar we liked in Tenn. A man sat next to me and said "why is that guy so popular? " I said, "it's because of his pretty curly hair."
The next weekend that same man walks in with a curly perm.:D

Hi amoore: actually I've quit drinking for now. After what I had today, I'm sworn off booze (evil stuff). Those Poinsettias really did me in. Never again.....at least until next Thursday
There's only you and me left so I guess I'm the bartender. What will it be??
You don't recognize the song??? It's that famous Beatles song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (LSD) :D :)
T & P HAS HIT 5000!!!!

Mahayana, I think the flip side of that song is "She's only 13 but she knows how to nasty" or is it "Hey Dora, you want some mora, right here on the floora" oh that Frank.... it's OK, everyone seems a bit sloshed so hopefully I won't get into trouble again. I'm going to make myself an Irish Coffee if I can get to the bar. It's snowy & slushy here and those red flower pots in the corner.... OH, sorry Gini & Slick *steps over softly*

Let's put another Beatle's song on before mahayana drags out the "Freakout" album!
"Somewhere in the Black Hills of Dakota there lived a young boy named Rocky Racoon...one day his woman ran off with another guy...hit young Rocky in the eye..."
RISE AND SHINE everyone! Thanks for letting me join you. :) That Sangria was perfect, just the way I like it.
*hands out a few aspirin to the folks who need it* LOL
Until next Thursday!

T&P - Congratuations on #5000! Sorry I missed it - I was at home doing laundry.:p
I don't know if I should ever make those Pointsettias again - someone spilled a pitcher on the floor next to the fireplace and now the floor is all sticky.
Slick - thanks for taking over bartending duties in my absence - the tip jar is yours.:D It was so nice of you to taste-test every drink before you served it. I like quality control.
Now, where's the mop?

You know....I was thinking......(oh, oh)
Didn't Richard just put out a post about having a bad back? What is he doing cutting wood if he has a bad back? Huh, Richard, explain that one!
Sounds as bad as my dad. Awhile back he had a slight heart attack and had a stint (sp?) put in. The very next day he's out cutting wood. So much for the doctor's advice to take it easy for a coupla days.
By the way Richard, cutting wood is my Dad's favorite pasttime. They have a woods behind their house and they recently bought another 10 acres of woods that adjoins their land. So he is now in the process of "cleaning up" the woods - taking down a bunch of dead trees and some other "weed" type trees so the young oaks and maples can get some light. He is in the woods every day the temp is below 70. It's kinda nice though because that means we have an endless supply of campfire wood for in the motorhome. :D "Would you prefer pine, cedar or hardwood with your kindling, sir?" "And would you like that cut in 12" or 14" pieces?" :D
O.K. - who is the wise guy that hung candy canes all over me?
One little 'ol poinsettia poo drinky and you guys make fun of me!
Whoever cleaned up - thanks a lot, because it is a big job each week.
I think I will meander over and check out T&P's Dad's woods.

When that HUGE oak tree came down in my front yard after hurricane Isabitch, my son & I rented a log splitter to cut it into shape. I mean the trunk was 9 ft in circumference. No way someone's going to take a little hatchet or saw on THAT big boy! It's too green for this winter but we now have 4 cords worth for next year. We have some left from last year so we still will have many fires this winter. I do love my warm fires

When I bought my first condo in 1996 it had a wood fireplace and I sure miss it....the cats too. It was a lot of work to carry up boxes of firewood to the 2nd floor, but worth it. Now I have a gas fireplace; Speckles loves it, but it's just not the same. That's one of the reasons this bar is so popular; the wood fireplace.

Great job cleaning up everyone - THANKS:D :D
Gini - sorry about the candy cane decorations glued to your <ahem> - nevermind.
We'll try to be better next week. Hopefully, Richard and the puppy will be able to join us.
Slick - would those be your garments that Corinna is refering to?
T&P - aren't men just too stubborn at times?
lb - my husband is such a pyro - he would be very envious over having such a big tree to cut up and burn.
We made a fire in our fireplace last night. Jan absolutely loves sprawlng out in front of it. Sid also like it but he likes to sit in a box. Its a 12 pound cat box and he's a 15 pound cat so its quite the sight. Joxer doesn't really care for the fire - he'd rather be snoozing on the bed.

Well I have all my clothes on except I can't find my socks. I must have taken them off to climb the ladder to get the knickers off the ceiling fan.
Come to think of it, did I even have socks on to begin with??? Oh well, off to the lost and found I go.

EWWWWWW, for the regulars, you don't want to go back there to the lost and found. You would not believe what I saw there
- several colours of men's boxer shorts
- several sizes of bras
(I assume these two came from the rafters....)
- a whole box full of lonely socks (no I didn't rifle through to find mine)
- some Hawaiian lays and a couple of grass skirts
- 2 halves of a coconut (we all know who wore those....):D :D
- some wigs
- there's even a Poodle Skirt back there.
well, I could go on and on but I just wanted to warn you. It's not a pretty sight. I'll be spending the next two days Mall Hopping just to get it out of my mind.
OMG was the poodle still in the skirt? I remember that day!!
Maybe we ought to post a notice and have people come back and pick this stuff up!
