I'm sitting here watching Fiddler on the Roof and was wondering if anyone else like that movie. They're about to sing Sunrise Sunset....what a great song. Donna and I were on AIM at the beginning of the movie when they were doing If I Were A Rich Man and were being stupid singing the song on AIM!! lol

I know...stupid thread, but I'm feeling brainless tonight.

I've never seen the movie, but my school did "Fiddler on the roof" as a play years ago... Is it any similar?

Hee, hee. I like it and my sister LOVES it. I just picked up the DVD for her for Christmas. (It's on sale at Target, or it was the last time I was there...)

It would be the same story KayAnn. If you liked the play you should rent the movie and watch it. It's REALLY long,(an hour and 45 minutes into the movie there is an intermission! lol) but great music and great dialogue. It won at least one Oscar for best Cinematography in 1971. It's on Turner Classic Movies right now, so they do show it on cable every once in awhile.

Mike LOVES it too. He also LOVES 1776. Not bad for a guy that, until we got together, hated musicals!! Now he can about quote the entire movie of 1776.

I forgot how sad the ending was. I always remember the funny stuff. I love the song "Anatefka" but it sure is sad.

It's funny, the other day I was watching "The Nanny" and they recreated the dream scene from Fiddler on the Roof...too funny.

One of my favorite lines from the movie is when the people of Anatefka ask the rabbi if there is a blessing for the czar, and he replies..."God bless and keep the czar....far away from us!"

That's a great line. There are so many of them. I never used to like the dream scene, but, now it's one of my favorites. I also think the scene where he is sitting at the train station with the middle daughter before she leaves for Siberia. It's so touching.

I've never seen the movie version, but I've seen it performed live a few times and I love it. I always walk around signing if I were a rich man.

Mugsy....do you mean when he says..."He asks you to leave your father and mother and join him in that frozen wasteland?" "No papa, he does not ask me to go, I want to go..."

So many lines from that movie!

Love the movie! And I have exceptionally fond memories of the play, because my high school chorus performed it when I was a sophomore (I played an anonymous villager).

Imagine, if you will, a bunch of small-town Midwestern kids with 1970s hair portraying a villageful of Russian Jews. :D

I also loved the movie.
I thought the part where he and his wife were
in bed, and he had tricked his wife in believing
his bad dream of her dead mother was a bad omen.
So his eldest daughter did not have to marry the old guy.

That was great!!

They're about to sing Sunrise Sunset

My best friend played that song at her wedding. By the time it was over, everyone was bawling.

I've never seen the movie, but my brother was in the play in high school.
