I'm so upset. :(

It was my birthday on October 16th, and my stepmom was going to buy me a webcam. She kept saying "Oh, I'll get it for you next week, oh I'll get it tomorrow and on and on." And then she went and blew all her money on a computer for herself. So I've been waiting all this time in such suspense, and she came over today with a webcam, and I was so happy. But then I put in the disk to install the software and it says it only takes windows 98 and higher. :( :( :( It doesn't even say that on the friggin' box!!! It just says WINDOWS!! Well I HAVE Windows! Just not 98!

My computer is so stupid, and I'm trying to talk my mom into getting windows 98 but she keeps saying no and telling me to shut up and stop being such a baby. :( I'm so upset because I've been waiting forever and then I finally get it and now I can't even use it. :( My stepmom spent $80...Now I have to get her to buy another one?!? I feel terrible.

Does anyone know how much it costs to upgrade my computer? I know this is probably no, but I'm desperate: Are there any sites I can just download it off of? I don't think it's that easy though...

I don't know if they even sell things that work on Windows older than 98. :confused: Pretty much everyone now uses XP...........at least ME or 2000. Some still use 98........but I highly doubt you can get something that works on a Windows older than that...........at least I don't think so. :confused:

You want mine? Its for Windows 95 and it doesn't work on my XP. :p Just kidding. :p

If it's your computer why can't you upgrade it? That seems ridiculous.

Windows 98 sells for about $40 - $50 on ebay, so if you get "Christmas money" that might be an option. Also, XP is the cheapest OS that you can buy used, but it's about $100.

I'm pretty sure you can find a webcam somewhere that works on older OS. They're not that expensive either. Mine was around $15-$20.

There are a few places my husband goes to download free software. The only bad thing is he gets a bunch of garbage and viruses to go with it. I don't think it is worth the trouble. I'd save your Xmas money like WolfChan said

Just make sure that Windows 98 or XP will run on your PC before you spend money and maybe get dissapointed again. Also be aware that a system which runs adequately on Win 95 may be incredibly SLOW running Win 98 - it just requires more resources. And check the minimum graphics requirements for the Webcam - some Win 95 PCs will only have an 8 or 16MB graphics card, so the images you receive may not be as clear as you expect.

Ally Cat's Mommy -- Minimum graphic requirements? I'm not sure what that means, but the box says : Video capture up to 640X480 pixels. Still image capture: up to 640X480 pixels. Frame rate: Up to 30 frames per second.
