I can't believe we didn't find this earlier. I groomed him not that long ago...how I manged to utterly miss this, I'll never know...:(

Tonight my mom found a large lump on his neck. It's roughly the size of a prune...kinda in the throat area. It's under the skin and moves around. It doesn't feel as soft and squishy as a cyst though, it's quite hard. :(

On closer inspection I found another one on his front leg near the chest. That one is roughly the size of a marble and feels about the same.

He's been eating, but not as much as normal. He acts fine other than that. He's 10 years old.

We're going to make an appointment to have the vet check it out soon. :(

Amy, try not to worry to much. I'm sure the vet will be able to figure out what the lumps are, and hopefully they aren't anything to serious.

Either way you and the gang will be in my thoughts.

I hope it’s nothing serious, Amy. Please keep us posted.

Is the one lump actually on his leg or on his chest? Could they be swollen lymph nodes? They can swell if there’s an infection somewhere.

It's on his leg. And the one on his neck is more on one side and irregularly shaped. You can feel it as an actual structure that moves around it doesn't really feel swollen.

Doesn't sound like anything too serious. I'd just have the vet check them out. My Dad's (now my sister's) dog is 14 and has had several lumps, bumps and cysts removed. He's a lumpy boy.

Oh dear, I can completely understand your concern. My Ashley (mini poodle now at the RB) had a few of those lumps and bumps as she aged and they were harmless cysts. Bella, Ripley and I are hoping it's the same with Reggie. We will have paws and fingers crossed until we hear what the vet had to say. (((hugs to you little Reggie)))

Fingers and toes crossed that the lumps will
not be anyting to worry about.
Sending good thoughts.

Me and my Cody just had one of those lump scares:( Happily, it was a cyst. So many puppers get those lumpies as they get older. I fully understand your concerns, but hopefully, and most likely, they're benign lumps or cysts so we're going to think positive!:) Sandra, Cody and Star are thinking of you both and keeping everything crossed for a good report from the white coats! Hugs to you sweet little Smokester!:)

Good luck, Reggie. I hope they are some type of benign lumps.

Both Shiloh and Killian have had a variety of your regular fatty cysts to a few "suspicious" lumps that had to be biopsied. The latest was Killian's trichoblatoma, a hair follicle tumor. Shiloh had two at once, one on her side and a suspicious one on her leg/paw pad area. Right now, Killian has a fatty cyst on his rear back, no suspicious cells found there. So, Reggie, I sure hope that your lumps are not serious. You will be in our thoughts and prayers!!

Feel just above the crook of the hind leg (either side) just as the upper leg muscle is starting. If you find a lump there, the lump is a lymph node.

The sudden swelling especially along the jaw line is characteristic of Lymphoma. Nodes can swell up within a few hours to a rather large size. Let's hope it's not.

I hope they are nothing but "fat" lumps ........ :)

Nope I don't feel anything there..

I called a few vets on monday, just explaining the size and the location of the lump...size of the dog, age, etc. They all quoted us around $400-$600 for it to be removed.

We took him to one of the vets on monday just to have it checked out. He said the one by his front leg looked like just a fatty cyst and not anything serious. He wasn't sure about the one on his neck...said it could either be a tumor or an infected gland (something like that ?). So he gave him two shots and some pills we've been giving him...we're hoping those will help and it's not something that needs to be removed..

Good news is, I could *swear* it feels smaller tonight. Both of my parents felt and and also think it feels smaller. I hope this works! :)

Oh, I hope it goes down and doesn’t have to be removed. I’m so relieved that it’s nothing bad. Reggie’s one of my favorite PT doggies. :D

How about some pics to celebrate?

I think you can take comfort in the fact that most often lumps aren't cancerous if they don't appear to be connected to surrounding tissues. It sounds like this is the case here.

Good luck!

Were one of those shots or pills Prednisone? Make sure a needle aspirate is taken and sent off to a Pathology lab for diagnostics. That is the only sure way to know what is really going on.

I'm glad Reggie's sounding better and I hope it stays that way!

And I'm happy to hear he's feeling better:)

I'm not sure what they are, I'll have to find out from my mom. We haven't taken a needle aspirate or anything yet the vet was just seeing if this would effect it at all.

Good news: The lump on his neck is MUCH MUCH smaller...
Bad new: He's been peeing in the house, possibly caused by the medication.

He acts fine and is eating well.

Oh yeah, the Predisone will do that to him. He'll get hungrier the longer he's on it too.

I just looked and the pills are called Clavamox.

If the pills are considered a steroid that would explain the peeing. One of my toy poodles years ago was on Prednisone (steroid) for a short time and the vet warned me that she would be drinking more and asking to go out more and he was right on both counts. :) Hope Reggie continues to improve!!

the equivalent of doggy Augmentin which is Amoxicillin + Clavulanate. It's usually very effective in combating Strep and Staph infections. It's most common use is for respiratory infections. Other uses include skin or skin derived infections.

IF the swellings come back up, it will be very important for you to get a needle aspirate of the lumps sent off to a Pathology lab, and to avoid ANY Prednisone (presumably one of the shots received) before the Pathology lab results come back.

Killian's protocol for pemphigus vulgaris is prednisone. He does drink more and consequently has to go out more (but he can hold it for a loooooong time, which results in a loooooooooog pee time.) He also eats very well, another side effect of that drug.

Glad the lumps are shrinking!

The lump on his neck is *very* small now, barely there. No more peeing or anything, he's acting just fine. :)

Yay! I'm glad Reggie is feeling better! :D

I'm on Augmentin right now and I have to pee all the time! LOL!
