:( To Gibson's Owner and Petoftheday.com
This message is intended to INFORM, not Offend.
You are not the first person on this website who has happily declared that your parrot sleeps with you. It shocks and appalls me that there are still people out there who do not realize how dangerous this habit is. Unlike dogs and cats, birds have hollow bones and fragile bodies. Rolling over on them will crush, suffocate and most likely kill them. I work at a very reputable pet store that specializes in parrots, and I hear horror stories daily about birds getting injured, often fatally. You are setting yourself up for an ugly accident that can be absolutely avoided. Birds are beautiful intelligent animals-- it is our responsibilty to protect them and make sure they live long healthy lives. Have your bird sleep in his securely locked cage tonight and every night from now on. Please visit well-respected websites dedicated to the proper care of parrots such as www.ottawaparrotclub.org and World Parrot Trust to learn more about the specialized care your pet needs. And to the publishers of Petoftheday.com , I would highly recommend learning more about parrots. Submissions detailing such ignorant behaviour should not be published on the internet.

Dangerous indeed, but it truely depends what the owner means when they say they *sleep* with their bird. I let my birds in my covers sometimes in bed, but ONLY when I'm awake........just to play/cuddle with them. I *never* fall asleep with them in bed....I'm very careful about that. Birds are little and delicate and can easily get crushed by their sleeping human companion on accident, so you're right..........its not recommended to sleep with a bird at all.

BTW, welcome to Pet Talk!
