Hi. It's Cataholic's sister Jessica again. Thanks so much for the info; I had a good lead on a woman who does rescue in Michigan (via email) that said she'd take the pup, but when my coworker tried to call & discuss details, nobody got back to her...I tried emailing her again, but no response...now we wonder if it was some kind of prank or something. I don't know what to think. At any rate, lovemyshiba said there was a good beagle rescue in PA...is this still an option? Could you forward me more info, lovemyshiba? maybe a transport could be arranged...please let me know.
Thanks, Jessica

Hi Jessica!
The beagle rescue here is called Nittany beagle rescue, and it is where we got Abbey, who had just been transpoted, along with 2 of her littermates, from Ohio.
Here is the link to their webpage
http://www.petfinder.org/shelters/PA98.html
I'm pretty sure that the email link is no good though, because Mr. Abbe and his wife have relocated to Mass--the rescue is still being run with the help of his staff. The only catch is, they need foster homes right now. Mr. Abbe used to keep all of the dogs in his house (he had 15 beagles when we went to get Abbey!!), and now they need to foster the ones they get.
I want to go out on a limb and tell you I would foster this pup, but I will need to talk to my husband first.
I have tried contacting the phone number, and got a machine. I can call back and leave a message though, and see if they can help, or you can call them.
Please let me know.

Jessica,
Did your friend ever try that www.imom.org to see if they could help with the cost of the surgery so they could actually keep the little guy?

I called and left a very detailed message (as much as I know), and I also emailed Mr. Abbe and asked him what the current situation is--I believe he is still running things as best he can from his new location.
I just have to wait to hear back then.
Oh, and good idea Mugsy--if they can get help paying for his surgery or whatever can they keep him?? That would be the best situation:)
