Well, I just couldn't do it...

Yesterday, my alpha female Maya Linn and my foster kitty, Sydney got into it real bad. No blood was shed but I kind of lost it and decided I wasn't going to put my cats through anymore stress than they already are. SOMEONE has been pooping outside any litterbox that isn't as clean as they'd like it to be (Ahem, I caught Doogie once a while ago. I scoop every day) No one has sprayed or peed anywhere else. I' not too concerned as long as they keep it in the kitty room on the mad, which is what whoever has been pooping does. If it gets out of control, Syd will definitely have to live at the shelter.

Anyway, I put Sydney in the carrier and called the shelter telling them about it. As I was driving there, she was making this poor, pathetic "mew" and reaching her paw through the bars. My heart was breaking.

I kept thinking about all she's been through, being dumped off in a box with her 5 babies (2 of them are still at the shelter) and then wandering around hungry for 2 weeks till I finally trapped her. I couldn't find the heart to bring here there and have her stuck in a cage till she got a furrrrrever home. Needless to say, I turned the car around and brought her back home with me. As I opened the carrier door, my cats came out to see who it was. I told them that she's here to stay for the time being and to DEAL WITH IT!!!!

There are still little "tiffs" now and then, but I have to give it more time, I guess.

Oh Donna I would have done the same thing. That pathectic little meow must be something that all cats have and it's designed to do nothing to tug at our heartstrings. I sorry you've been having trouble and I pray that time will make things better. Hugs to you :) :)

What a hard thing to have to be dealing with. I know you want to best for everyone.

Sydney hasn't been out with the other cats for long, maybe that will improve with time. As for the litter box problem, maybe adding one more would help? I know you are far more experienced with this than me but I'm just trying offer a little help (and support). I'd love to see this work out for you all.

Bless your heart, Donna! I know exactly how you feel! It's heartbreaking to think of letting one go who isn't fitting in... and so we just keep on "keepin' on"!

Poor Sydney, Poor you, and Poor kitties trying to adjust! I'm sorry things are going sour at the moment but they will get better. If given a little more time maybe Sydney can find her place in the pecking order and everyone will settle down. You do such wonderful work for the furkids and it has to be so frustrating at times. Hopefully this was just a really bad kittie day!

Things seem to be a LITTLE better. Maya Linn is still hissing, and Sydney wants SO bad for her to play. It's gonna take time. And yes, I AM glad I turned around. I should know better when in comes to introducing cats. Time and patience are the key. I should take my OWN advice!! :eek:

I have to admit that I probably would have done exactly the same thing you did. I never realized how difficult it was to give back foster cats. I had 2 cats through a military foster program and I gave them back yesterday and it just about killed me. So I can understand very well why you are keeping Sydney.

The cats will adjust it is just a matter of time and patience.

Things are a little better, although Moo has a big scratch on his side, and someone is still pooping on the floor in the kitty room

I'm going to post Sydney's picture on Petfinder.com under the Dearborn Animal Shelter this weekend. If she gets a home, fine. If not, no big deal.
