The good part was when I went there last night to work with some of the dogs and while I was there 2 dogs got adopted!!! :D This is Annie who went to a lovely couple who will be able to give her a great deal of time and love:

The bad part was that I found out that the state is doling out low cost spay/neuter certificates to the different municipalities on an equal basis. So the City Shelter who gets hundreds of dogs a month get the same amount as a suburb shelter that gets 15 dogs a month. The city will only pay for basic shots and euthanasia, so spaying or neutering is paid for by the adoptive parents. Sure makes adopting at the City Shelter less attractive than the suburb shelters. The low cost certificates make the cost $35 while full price is between $150 and $200.
Needless to say I will be doing a great deal of letter writing and phone calling. To me this is unconscionable. The employees at the shelter were even calling other shelters and getting their extra certificates, but the state said they couldn't do that.
