 This morning while getting my household off to what I had hoped to be a good start, my two dogs decided to bust through our fence and go terrorizing the neighborhood! The good thing is atleast they stick together. They had only been in the backyard for about 15 min. and when I went to let them back in, hmm... no dogs? I called for them hoping they had just made their jail break. No such luck, I knew I was wasting my breathe and precious time in finding them. SO, I rushed my son, who was waiting for me to take him to school, into the truck and we circled the neighborhood. No Luck! My son, Loki, said "Mom, I'm keeping my eyes peeled, okay?" He gets so worried when this happens. I told him when I dropped him off at school not to worry about it that I would find them. So after dropping him off I called the police and told them about the situation and gave them all the info. The last time this happened they labeled our dogs as VICIOUS! They are far from vicious but they are pretty intimidating. However, to close this long story, I went back out to find them. I asked anyone I saw if they had spotted them. I drove past a house that had some construction going on and I figured if they had been anywhere near, these guys probably saw them. Sure enough they directed me to where they had last been seen and I took off. 1 block away from there 2 elderly ladies, probably terrified were trying to figure out how to get one of my dogs, Zeus, our Rotty, the more intimidating one out of their yard. But he just wanted to play with their beautiful Shep. Hercules, our rotty shep mix, was on the outside of the fence trying to figure out how he could join in the fun! Needless to say I got them both in my truck, finally!, and apologized repeatedly.

:D Thanks. To look at them from my eyes they pretty much are innocent. Just mischievious. Good news though, I went today and got them both brand new collars with shiny brand new tags, just in case this were to happen again and I'm not so fortunate in finding them. I just went to court with the Animal Control because they got out last year while my hubby and I were at work. We didn't know that you have to have licenses if you own dogs of a stereotypical breed. We were charged with Animals at Large! Yeah, we're bad pet owners, we just leave them to run the neighborhood to terrorize our neighbors, while we're at work. Just Kidding:rolleyes:

I feel for you! Max likes to break out too - though he hasn't been successful much lately. He's even knocked screen windows out to escape! On the rare occasions he does escape now, it's invariably when it's cold, dark and rainy.
The same police officer has brought him home twice for me!
I thing my rottenshepherd looks a lot like your rottenshepherd, don't you!?

that is soo funny! Yes, Max looks alot like my rottenshep.! I can't believe it! It must be something about that mix! Hercules has busted through 2 of my window screens, just this past summer. I thought that maybe he was the only dog that would attempt such an act! The scary thing is that there is quite a drop from where he has jumped!
Does Max have that same look on his face that mine gets... that sort of Eeyore look that says..."Thanks for noticing me."?

His look is more like a "Huuuuh? Wha?" Super duper playful too - he'll drop toys in my lap all day if I don't take him out for a good LONG run off leash in the woods. He literally must run 10 miles for every mile I walk.
Does Hercules love to run? I swear Max thinks he's a greyhound.
And JUMP! Holy cow - he can jump right into the back of our 4WD pickup, with the gate up, directly from a sit! He doesn't even need a running start! I have a picture of him doing it in my photo album.
Strong, too. Yours must also be strong, or you wouldn't have named him "Hercules".
Not only has he knocked screens out of the windows - but fans as well!
Maybe we have two peas from the same pod!

I really believe it is something with the particular mix of shep and rottie. They are actually more common than I had ever imagined and I have yet spoken to anyone who has one or that knows someone who has one and when they describe them I'd swear it sounds like they are talking about Herc.
Hercules really likes to jump. I always tell him he thinks he's a reindeer. He acts like one day he just might take off!
Both of my dogs love to run but thier reasons are different. Hercules likes to play fetch and Zeus likes to chase Hercules while he's playing fetch.

Bad doggies! I'm glad to you have them back! Roxy is my escape artist. She's broken out dozens of times. She's unlatched gates, climbed fences, busted fences, ate fences, scaled walls, dug, you name it! I think I have it doggy proof finally. (knock on wood)

Imagine my surprise and shock when Logan dashed out the front door 2x in one day! I had never had a problem with Cody so I think I just stood at the door frozen in terror! In the morning, of course I had to be somewhere and was dressed up and it was monsoon rain, she just very quickly and delicately slipped by me as I opened the screen door! I knew she'd be at the schoolyard up the street, as she remembered it was "squirrel heaven" Unfortunately, like Cody, I did not collar her in the house (that's changed for sure!) I finally stood still, called her happily to come, and she came running to me and stopped. What luck is that?? Problem is, she has a history of being teased and dislikes kids, so it was a blessing that it was raining. That afternoon, no rain, the neighbor comes over and before I could yell "NO!" swings open the screen door and out runs my little imp to the house before the school, which also has squirrels. Two joggers tried to get her, my poor, crying neighbor is attempung to leash her, I'm trying to remain calm and cheerful, but everytime we rounded one side of the huge tree trunk, she outwitted us and ran around the other. This went on for 10 minutes and if I wasn't so upset, I'd laugh..it really was comical. Thank God for pooping! I was finally able to leash her. No problems since, but I'm sure she would have scared the crap out of the kids. People are really quick to report this stuff to authorities. I wrangled up a Mastiff and a Chow on our block with treats and a leash and walked around until the owners came by in their cars. I took a chance but was lucky. The neighbors, both times, called me, so I felt important  that they thought I'd know what to do.

Funny how mad we are and worried when these things happen but as soon as it's all said and done, how could we ever stay mad. Especially when they display that, "Man that was fun! Can we do it again?" smile on their face.

I too have an escape artist!! Sierra.... (the dark one) she'll jump the fence at one end, make a lap around the house, then jump back in on the other end of the yard!
I don't think Buddy could jump the fence if he had to!!:D

I solved Max's fence problem by installing a cable at ground level. It's inside the fence. He can run back and forth and look over the fence, but the cable's so short that he can't jump the fence.
Now - if they could only invent Max-proof screen doors and windows!

My husband has come up with a solution...
Take down the 6 ft. privacy fence which is made up of nothing but slats of wood that our boys are busting through and put up a cinder block wall all the way around our yard. If that doesn't hold them then nothing will;)
