When I was coming back from walking Buddy, I decided to go through our back laneway. All of a sudden, I see this tiny little black kitty come out from under some branches that were lying on the ground. It did a halloween cat at Buddy(Sooo cute) and then came to me. I picked her up(checked and it is a she) and the poor little thing had wet paws and was shivering. There was no way I could put her down and walk away, so I put her inside my coat and brought her home. Okay to make a long story short, I guess she is between 6 to 8 weeks old as her eyes are starting to change color. Now my question here is: Do you think she could be a feral or belong to someone? Her eyes are clear, no running nose, uses the litterbox, her ears are clean and doesn't seem to have fleas. She had a poop and I watched to see if there were any worms. None that I could see.
If she does belong to someone, how could she be outside at such a young age. She could barely make it in and out of the litterbox.
BTW I've named her Sweetpea.:D and holy cow what a LOUD meow this little sweetie has. Oh what to do?

Oh boy...it sounds like she just might have you already hooked!!
I really doubt that she is feral because she would have been very scared of you and would not have approached you. I agree with you that it is a shame that the little girl was out all alone! It does make you wonder where she came from. I don't know what to suggest but I have a feeling that we may be seeing pictures of your new baby!!!:D :D http://petoftheday.com/talk/images/our_smilies/biggrin.gif

Good luck and I hope it turns out the best for you and this little one. :) http://petoftheday.com/talk/images/our_smilies/smile.gif

I would just love to keep her but I just can't.:( My youngest son is moving back home this week with his kitty. Originally it was to be two but his ex-girlfriend is going to be taking the little female calico with her. Soooo we are going to have too slowly introduce him to my 3 cats, plus the dog and I hate to say it, but his cat is not a very sociable one. He is just over a year old, all gray with yellow eyes and his name is Sades. When I use to go over to my sons place, Sades would smell me first and then hiss and growl at me. I don't know how this is going to turn out. Only time will tell. Wish us luck.
In regards to Sweetpea, I have called a neighbour of mine to see if she could take her for now. I'll keep you posted if you'd like.

Sweetpea sure sounds adorable. :) Since she's so friendly, I'm sure that someone probably owns her. Maybe she some how got out and then got lost. Hopefully she'll be able to find her old home or a new loving forever home. Good luck and please keep us updated. :)

OH MY GOODNESS!!! First of all, she shouldn't have been outside alone at that age if she "belonged" to someone!!! I'd say you have a new BABY!!! Congratulations, and send me some pics, so I can post them for you!!!!!!!:D

Any chance she's a neighbor's escapee? Any lost cat ads in your local paper? I agree, she sounds to friendly to be feral.

Here's an update on Sweetpea.
My neighbour has agreed to keep her at her house for the time being. We will give it a good two weeks to see if anyone has put up any posters or a lost ad in the paper. We feel that if she does belong to someone then they should be doing everything possible to find her. Right???
If she is not claimed by the end of the two weeks, my neighbour Erica will keep her. She also has a 4 year old male cat.

Do you guys think this is fair enough?

Kim, I will get pictures of Sweetpea for you, as she is just next door to me.:D

Sounds fair to me. You are right, if she belongs to someone and they are trying to find her then two weeks should give them time. Sounds to me like she didn't have a home or at least not a good one so your neighbor will have a new kitty. Glad you were able to find her a good home so quickly. Hope it all works out - and for your son's cat too. That may be a really bumpy ride for you guys.

Thanks Jazzcat.
My hubby thinks that maybe someone had brought her to the pet shop around the corner from us, but they are not taking in anymore kitties as they are apparently being sued for selling sick kitties and some of them have died.:( So he thinks she was just abandoned in the laneway.
Who knows.
I'm just glad that I found her on friday and she is in a warm place as we have had rain since yesterday.
I called Erica and Sweetpea is doing just fine.
She is keeping her in a separate room for now, as she has another cat and she wants to make sure she is not sick.
After the two weeks are up, Erica will be bringing her to a vet for a check-up.
It's still early though, but no one has posted any posters, which we see a lot of on the poles around here, and no one has gone from door to door, which has been done in the past, asking if a kitty has been found. Sooo we shall see.

Thanks for helping this little sweetiepie (what an appropriate name!). It is a little early to tell, but I would say your neighbor has just gotten herself a new kitty. :D Hopefully everything will go well at the vets and the introductions can begin soon. I have to agree with your husband that someone probably just dropped her off - poor kitty. But as happened before when PT'ers happen upon kitties, the kitty's lives are forever changed for the better.

Thanks again for helping her out, and tell your neighbor thanks for taking her in.

....pics??? :D

It's great that your neighbor's taking her - because you can still watch her grow up! It's like having a niece instead of a daughter. How about some pictures?

Oh Lorraine, that is wonderful that your neighbor is offering to keep her if her "owner" doesn't show up!!! Then you will be able to watch her grow, and so will we!!!! :D
