Ebbs is fine about me picking her up and carrying her short distances - except up and down stairs for some reason. She also has been staying longer on my lap when I pick her up, 30 seconds as opposed to 10, LOL, anyway you can maybe understand how my heart lept when she jumped on my lap last night! :eek: Sadly she didn`t stay, it was only on the way to lie next to me on the sofa. Still, that was really nice too. I went and got my camera, sat back down, and took these pics.

If Ebby doesn't lie on your lap, at least lying beside you is a good substitute. Sam is the only one of our cats who will lie on a lap. If you try and move before she is ready though, she digs her claws in and holds on. :D

Willow was the same way. he especially panicked if I carried him up or down the stairs. (strange)

But crossing your lap in order to lie next to you is a BIG event. There was a time Fern would not touch you with her paws unless there was something (like a paper or book) between you and her.

Ebby sure has come a long way...........showing off her belly is a VERY trusting act!!!

Chris, hang in there! She may just surprise you one day! :) Butter surprised me so much the first time he sat in my lap for any amount of time that I wouldn't move! I think I was at the computer desk because I remember typing a message here because I was so surprised and happy! Now, almost 3 years after he showed up at my door, he is known to get in my lap quite frequently, but he does not like to be carried at any time. :)

Its funny that some Cats are Lap cats , and some , no matter how much that you love them , are not. JJJ3 is , Micheal is and Princess is a Born Lap cat , as are Diane and Sam. But the others are not , and I know that it is not because they dont like me , they just arent.

When I think about it Ebby really has come a long way from the standoffish cat I brought home from the shelter. It is so lovely to be able to rub that belly, give scritches and hear that purring in response! :D And she is such a good kitty too, never gives me any trouble in any way...oh, I do love her so!:) :)

Ebby is beautiful!!! Of our 9 only Leroy has been a lap kitty. Lucky was the cat that lived in our house for 18 months before I was allowed to even touch him! He is now 3 years old and just in the last month he has become a LOVE MUFFIN! I never thought it would happen so I understand your excitement! Chris, this is exciting news!!!:D I'm sure that eventually she'll sit in your lap more and more. Storm sat in my lap when I first adopted him because he was sick and I didn't realise it. After that he only did this if he felt scared or threatened in some way which was only a couple of times. Then he started sitting in my lap after Pepper passed away. I guess he knew that I needed some extra comfort.:) Now he'll do it every now and then which is fine with me. I also hope that some day Cirrus will be become a lap cat. He still won't let me pick him up. BTW Ebby sure is gorgeous. :)

She didn`t come downstairs until nearly bedtime last night so no cuddles on the sofa! But she is down and staking her spot on there early tonight (around 5)!:D Poor Bob, he didn`t notice she was down so before he did I sent him to his den (crate), I did have him finish dinner first though. :) Before you all start feeling too sorry for him, he is quite happily sleeping away in there, and snoring to boot!:D

I still remember the first time Edwina climbed in my lap...I was so shocked! .... and pleased!...and thrilled!...

My mother was visiting and we were sitting and shatting when Edwina just jumped up and settled down fro a nap.

One day Ebby will do that too!

Chris, I'm so happy for you! Yes, the day will come when Ebby decides she prefers a lap, and hopefully you'll share the day with us so we can help celebrate. :D

My mom's Cranker who is almost 10 years old, and has never been a lap cat (go figure) has recently done the same thing. Usually he'll just go about his business and maybe be in the same room as my mom, but he has never just jumped up and wanted pets....until about a month ago. She was shocked and pleased. He stayed for about 5 minutes before he retreated to his place under the blanket on the couch, but she at least had that 5 minutes that she had never had before. Haven't asked her about it lately so I don't know if he's done it again.
