A couple of times recently, Willow was lying on his side in his cage, and he tries to get up, but can't. And he just lies there kicking until I help him up on his belly. I'm scared to think about this happening if I'm not here, that he'll get worn out or hurt himself. :( The vet recommended the bottom of his cage full of hay, but I don't think that allows him to get enough grip, so I think I will look into a different kind of bedding.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Maybe you could try a type of carpet stuff. Thats what I use and it works great for grip! It's really cheap at like Lowes or something. I defintly would recomend it.

Willow is a bunny right? Unable to get up from lying down is not natural and straw is slippery and will only make it harder for him to get on his feet. Is he obese? If not, you have got a physical problem and your vet did not give this problem serious enough attention. I'd find another rabbit specialist vet and get a second opinion, fast!!!! :(

I hope that Willow is doing better now. Are there any updates Cookiebaker?
Have you taken him to the vet? He is getting pretty old isn't he. I hope he is ok.

Whoops!! :o I forgot to come back and give an update!! Yes, I changed Willow's bedding, and I haven't noticed any problems since. I'm pretty sure that he wasn't able to get a grip in a big pile of hay. He has never had a problem like that outside his cage, so I'm pretty sure it was just the hay. Now he has a big pile of hay, but only in one corner.

Thanks for asking!!! :)
