Lexie has been a little unwell, I de-wormed her with Drontal last week, she has had one bout of the runs, then she was ok, and a small vomit this morning, it is nearly a week since I dosed her, also her tummy was making some pretty mean grumbling loud noises, she appears ok in every other way and is playful and eating ok, so I am just wondering if the worm pills could have this effect., otherwise I guess she has had a tummy upset of some kind, caused through I don't know what?

I would appreciate anyone's comments thanks.

Carole,

How old is Lexie??? Usually de-worming medicine is given in two doses in a liquid form (unless there's a problem, then they do pills) 3 weeks apart.

As long as she's eating, pooping and drinking, I wouldn't worry. If she stops any of these, call the vet.

Donna she is over a year old and gets drontal pills every 3 mths, this is her second time with the pill, she has had a similar reaction, once before, but I cannot be sure it was at the same time she was de-wormed, she seems to be ok today, but I sure will keep my eye on her, her poor tummy was making some terrible loud noises.

She only had one small vomit and one dose of the runs, next one was a little bit more formed, I hope she does not go the other way now and get constipated.

Its a mystery to me, maybe it is some reaction to the pill, who knows, I guess the chemical stays awhile in the body?
Thanks for your advice!!!!!

Carole,

Like Jen said, diarrhea and stomach upset is all part of de-worming. It means that the medicine is working.

Keep me posted.

Phew thanks Jen, I kinda thought this could be the case, was hoping for a some re-assurance, just to be sure I have emailed a a vet, there is a site on the web, where you can send in questions and be answered by a vet.
She looks a little fat to me, either she has just put on some weight, or she has a little bloating, again she seems happy within herself and hungry,as ever. so fingers crossed it is nothing to worry about.

just one more thing, she has not pooped in the box yesterday or today, keep in mind lexie does get outdoors, and she has done this before like gone 3 days , then in the box and completely normal.
My question is if she did become constipated at all, what medication should I get her, or would I need to take her to the vet, I know that cat-lax which is for furballs, gave my Ash the runs, so a little of that might work, if this situation should arise, what do you think? she probably is just fine, I am just a worry wort.

A helpful hint our new vet gave me and it worked, when you give them the deworming medicine, give it to them with a meal. They are less likely to throw up. Kinda like us humans "take with food, medicines". It worked for us when I had to gave Skinny his deworming pills.

Please consult a vet before giving any medications for potty conditions. They can prescribe over the counter stuff for potty problems.. age and weight taken into consideration for amount and frequency. Sometimes a change in diet is all that is needed.

Since she goes outside you can't really monitor to closely. If she is eating a good diet (minus any fury friends, rats, birds while she is outside) her potty efforts should be ok. She will let you know otherwise.

Relax :)

Carole, I hope that Lexie feels better soon. I had to deworm Sky in September and the vet gave him 2 drontal pills and then I gave him 2 more pills 3 weeks later. He never had any kind of reaction to it. I did feed him right after I pilled him though so I guess that helped his tummy. I'm sure Lexie will be fine.
