Okay well in my other post "Valley Dogs" I said I was getting one of them, I already paid a deposit, but alot of people said it was just a backyard breeder, So I asked my parents if maybe I should look in a dog shelter because alot of people had ideas about saving a dog instead, but my mom said "No because you don't know what they are like, they could be saucy or something!" But I would like to just look, alot of people get their dogs at shelters don't they? I mean most dogs are saucy for reasons, Please let me know your opinions on shelters and saving dogs! Thanks

Tell your mom that of the possibly 40 dogs in a shelter, not all of them are going to be saucy. Most of them are very sweet. Another excuse not to go is because obviously the dogs were put there for a reaon -- but most the time, the reason is not the dog's fault! It's "he got too big" or "she sheds too much" or "he won't stop peeing but I don't want to get him neutered" or "I leave him all day in a fun room, yet he STILL chews on everything!"

Just tell your mom that the dog you'd be buying from the BYB will have pups much worse than saucy -- unhealthy pups.

I thought you were getting a boxer?

Anyways, I'm definitely all for rescueing. Out of those 40 (or so) dogs, there's probably the perfect match for you. We've recently rescued a sheltie from the shelter. He was found lost. He didn't get turn in for behavior problems, but if he did, dogs are very trainable. Tell your mom that just looking wouldn't hurt.

So many people think that if a dog's in a shelter, there must be something wrong with it. But that's absolutely not true. They're there because there's something wrong with the people who had them (like - they're stupid). Max is an awesome dog. I could never have asked for a better dog - and he was from a shelter. Pepper was from a shelter, too - and she was such a sweet little thing, I'll never forget her.

People put their dogs in the shelter because they don't match the couch, or because they didn't housetrain themselves, or because they smell "doggy" - you name it. It's very rarely because the dogs themselves are bad. If the dogs are put in the shelter because they bite, usually the shelter's not even allowed to adopt them out.
